Once maligned as hopelessly out-of-style the ranch-style home is back! Fueled by a renewed interest in mid-century style ranches are becoming the choice of the fashion forward. Not only are they the perfect backdrop for today's decor styles, they're also easy to clean. Turn on you Roomba in the morning and you're done! Ranch homes are perfect for people who find stairs a challenge and also for families who want to actually be together in their home. Style guru of the moment Emily Henderson has been documenting her own renovation and decoration of a mid-century style ranch on her blog and in just about every home decor magazine you'll find at Barnes and Noble. Here's a peak at her lofty living room from Domino Magazine.
Here's one of our favorite ranches. It's located in beautiful, desirable Stone Ridge. Stone Ridge is great fun and it's located an easy distance from New Paltz, Kingston and Rosendale for even more social, arts, shopping, and dining options. Take the 10 second tour and for more details contact Eric Bean

We've seen a real surge in the popularity of the ranch in our area. One of the main draws is the ease with which they can be renovated. So many buyers are looking for a loft feel. That can be difficult to achieve when renovating a two or 3 story house because the lower level needs to provide support for the upper levels. That means beams and dividing walls. Single floor homes can have much more flexible floor plans. They support the roof, that's all, so it's fairly easy to open them up and get a loft-look, even when you're dealing with fewer square feet than you might have in a 2 or 3 story home.

A Ranch With Wall To Wall Windows

A ranch's structure opens up the possibility for large expanses of glass along the exterior walls and skylights! It's so energizing to have your home bathed in light all day and romantic to be able to see outside at night, especially if you do a little creative landscape lighting. Ranches systems are usually quite accessible because they can be reached from the basement and/or the attic. Want to add recessed lighting throughout the house? No big! Your electrician is not trying to run wiring between floors. House doesn't have central ac? Again, no big deal! Renovating a ranch to your taste is likely to cost you less than renovating a multiple-floor building in a similar way.

My new favorite blog And North JUST posted an article on a beautiful ranch in New Paltz. It reminds me of a house I stayed in in Carmel, CA, but seems completely germain to the Hudson Valley. It's beautiful!

For those of us who are tired of climbing stairs all the time, the return of the ranches are particularly wonderful! I hope the trend continues, becuase I know there are many others of the same mindset.
