Climax New York is a small rural town in Greene County - there's not always a lot of real estate on offer at any given time in Climax, but when Climax properties are available they present the opportunity to have access to popular Catskills and Hudson Valley towns like Windham, Catskill, Coxsackie and Hudson at a relatively affordable price. Let's explore Climax and its properties for sale!
To find Climax, you follow Route 81 from Coxsackie (Climax is a hamlet of the larger town of Coxsackie) and take a right on County Route 26. This is the type of town where navigational landmarks are farmhouses, cottages, and ancient maple trees. This is farmland but on the mountainside - with historic homes, barns, lush green countryside, orchards, and fields. As you climb higher and higher on Route 26, you'll get to Willow Creek Farm - turn around. The view is heaven! You can see the entire Berkshires range, from north to south.
One resident, when asked about the view, said, “Yes, the Berkshires in that direction and the Catskills when you look the other way. We call it the top of the world!”
When you have more house-guests than your house will hold, make reservations at the Best Western in New Baltimore, Post Cottage in Catskill or at the riverside Stewart House in Athens.
If you’ve come to Climax without your kayaks, contact Screaming Eagle Outdoor Adventures to rent some from them. Stroll or roll around the old reservoir at the Cairo Nature Preserve.
Roll down the hill to Coxsackie’s lovely Riverside Park or Athens’ Riverfront Park for music all summer long. Need more drama in your life? Catch a play at the Bridge Street Theater.
Thriving in Climax for 100 years, Boehm Farms has grown apples & made people happy. The delightful Coxsackie Farmers Market at Riverside Park is music, foods & artisans’ wares.
Entrees come with Caesar salad, warm bread & fig butter at Che Figata. Dine while overlooking the Hudson at Boathouse Grille & Hagar’s Harbor. Do breakfast at Chrissy & Tim’s Diner.
Seeking fabulosity? Detox with an infrared body wrap at Salon 255. Dig New Orleans jazz while Janet makes your hair better. Riverside Martial Arts offers yoga, Aikido and Iaido.
Choose luscious handmade chocolates at the Greenville Arms. Sip espresso or herbal tea while browsing Mansion & Reed. Select stationery & “design-driven” gifts at Pilothouse Paper.
Tour Meadow Ridge Farm on the Hudson. Put your sailboat in the water at Coxsackie Boat Launch. Or become a member at Coxsackie Yacht Club & do it there!
There's so much to do in Climax, NY - it can be hard to decide! Contact one of our Local Experts at Village Green Realty. We'd love to give you our recommendation on the best things to do in Climax.
At the very bottom of the hill where Climax sits is Coxsackie, so although Climax feels separated from the world, it’s not at all. Coxsackie has a larger village with all the necessities. In the Coxsackie flats, Climax residents can get groceries or gasoline, lunch and a coffee.
Coxsackie’s Reed Street Historic District is especially charming; that’s where the boat launch is, a Hudson riverfront park and some of the most wonderful old homes… plus Che Figata Bistro, where the menu changes every day. Coxsackie is also home to the Greene County Historical Society, Bronck House Museum, and the Vedder Research Library, all preserving a wealth of Greene County history and tradition.
When you’ve had your fill of village life and you’re going back up the mountain, you might pass a hand-printed sign, “goats chickens rabbits.” If you're looking for fresh veggies, you’ll want to try Boehm Farm, since 1903, a mainstay of Climax. During the growing season, you can get delicious cherries, plums, apples, peaches and pumpkins grown right there; they also have honey, maple syrup, donuts, pies and like that at the farm stand.
On the new side is Climax Cooperative Farm; using “minimum mechanical intervention,” they grow tomatoes, beets, kale, flowers and more. If you’re curious about another sign in Climax, Linnea's Handcraft, you’ll find it leads to Bitta Albright, who gives classes in ceramic painting, soap-making, baking, you name it!
Climax is a great place to buy real estate or to build on undeveloped land. There are old logging trails through the forest and lots of streams and ponds. If you choose the right spot, the views will knock your socks off.
