Lexington real estate might be the Catskills best-kept, most beautiful secret. Near two major ski resorts—Windham and Hunter—and with the Schoharie Creek running through it, Lexington is a natural paradise. Hunter Mountain is to the East of Lexington, and the Rusk Mountain Wild Forest including, Rusk, Evergreen, Pine Island and Packsaddle mountains, stretches as far as the eye can see. This is utopia for anyone who loves the outdoors.
A recent chat with a pair of local canoers found them reporting a mix of white and calm water on the Schoharie, with “an eagle not more than 10 feet away” and “a nest of ravens with the young ones screaming for lunch.” And, they said, they have only encountered one other canoe in the three years they have been navigating the river. All of this to say, in Lexington you’re unlikely to find yourself in a crowd.

There's so much to do in Lexington, NY - it can be hard to decide! Contact one of our Local Experts at Village Green Realty. We'd love to give you our recommendation on the best things to do in Lexington.
Lexington sits in a remote but accessible corner of the Catskills because of the intersection of 2 well-known country roads, 23A and 42, which meet in Lexington and offer easy avenues to adventure elsewhere. If you’re looking to get out for a drink or a good meal, Windham and Hunter aren’t only for skiers! Both offer great restaurants, taverns and places to lodge overflow guests.
Follow Route 42 south over Halcott Mountain through the awe-inspiring Deep Notch, and you’ll find yourself on Route 28 in Shandaken’s hamlet of Phoenicia, from whence you can find your way to Kingston and all that now famous small city has to offer. Or turn down Spruceton Road in West Kill, where there are some hip hangouts.
The Town of Lexington has a full-time population hovering around 1,000 people, but it’s a busy community with a lot of resources. Townspeople keep in touch through an excellent website, where you can attend Zoom Town Board meetings and find a list of local businesses and services you might need, not to mention contact info for all the local representatives, boards, committees and emergency services.
In terms of available property in Lexington there’s often land on offer as well as existing homes. If you want access to a stream, buying Lexington real estate is the thing to do. Live right on the road in a meadow; or if you’re more intrepid, follow a long drive into the woods and up a hill to your private getaway. Wherever you decide to buy a Lexington home for sale, chances are there will be mountain views all around.
