Lanesville real estate bridges the gap between two popular areas in Ulster and Greene Counties. Lanesville is the first Greene County hamlet you enter when you leave Ulster County after winding through the hamlet of Chichester on pretty Route 214 from Phoenicia. That drive along Route 214 connects Phoenicia and Woodstock with Hunter and Tannersville.

Route 214 follows the course of the Stony Clove Creek through what’s known as Stony Clove Notch. You'll know you’ve reached Lanesville when the road opens into a narrow valley, flattens, and suddenly you see Hunter Mountain directly in front of you. It's a Catskills spot that feels a bit like the Rockies. Lanesville homes are often hidden up the hills off Route 214 or near the Stony Clove in groves of trees. They are escapes for those who do not need immediate access to coffee shops or boutiques, but who instead want to be surrounded by the sounds of a stream, the sound of silence, and regular snow in the winter.

The Stony Clove Notch cuts between two Catskills ranges. To the west is the Hunter-West Kill Wilderness, including Hunter, West Kill, North Dome, Sherrill and Balsam mountains; in the east loom Plateau, Olderbark, Sugar Loaf, Twin, Indian Head and Plattekill mountains and the Indian Head Wilderness. Of course, when you’re in Lanesville, you can’t see all those mountains on either side, you're in their midst. The point is Lanesville homes are mountain homes.
