Beekman NY Real Estate

Beekman real estate for sale is quintessential Dutchess county property: beautiful fields, quiet forest, and a refined aesthetic based on the agrarian history of the county. The Town of Beekman, which until the ‘60s was full of flourishing dairy farms, is a suburban-rural mix with woods thick all around. The closer you come to the center of old Beekman, the closer to the original roadways and older the homes of the town. There's a mix of old and new housing styles in Beekman which offers something for historic home-lovers and something for the homebuyer who values the reliability of a new home. You might even find a reimagined chicken-coop from when farming was integral to Beekman and farm buildings were built-to-last. Beautiful old farmhouses are sometimes accompanied by old barns surrounded by pine trees and ponds, split-rail fences and stone walls. Occasionally you run across an ultra-modern structure. In Beekman, one is conscious of being in southern, as opposed to northern, Dutchess County because it's more populous than a town like Stuyvesant. That does not mean it's crowded, just a bit busier than towns in the northern part of the county. Beekman is also horse country, so there’s a lot of beautiful land that has been loved by horse-lovers for anywhere from decades to centuries and the equestrian properties for sale that accompany that history.

The history of Beekman is revered by even its youngest residents. One group, Youth for Restoration, whose mission is to “identify and restore old historic sites and pursue their nomination to the State and National Register of Historic Places," has projects that include the restoration of the Beekman Mill House, originally the Murphy Grist Mill, built in 1889 and in use as a mill through the 1930s; they’ve documented nearly 100 artifacts found on-site.  Their first project was resurrecting the Apoquague Friends' Burial Ground, a 200-year-old Quaker cemetery on Pleasant Ridge Road. Beekman NY History and Lifestyle

Beekman Homes For Sale

There are a few other remnants of Beekman’s early days in town, including, on the Old Upper Road in Pouqhquag, the 1770 Noxon House; and the Vanderburgh Burial Grounds, where one of the earliest stones is marked 1794. Throughout town you'll find historical markers of buildings and events of note.

In recent times there’s been a good deal of construction in Beekman, but the agrarian nature of the community has not disappeared. There are still farms, including the organic Maple View vegetable and herb farm, where residents can join their CSA program. There's Barton Orchards where besides a farm market and pick-your-own opportunities, they have an ice cream stand, tap room, dog park, playground and Tree-Top Adventures where visitors can spend the day swinging and zipping from tree to tree! The Safe Haven Farm Sanctuary is another type of farm, where rescued farm animals are given a new lease on life. A third type is the horse farm, and there are choices: Old Dalton FarmLegacy Stables and JL Performance Horses,  among others.

If you’re the outdoor type but not a horseperson, there are options for getting outdoors in Beekman as well, including Doherty Park, Town Center Park behind the library, and Rec Park. Check out this list of parks and facilities and a list of fishing spots in and outside Beekman. There's also the 112-acre, 140-foot-deep Sylvan Lake which has a public boat launch. At Sylvan Lake Beach Park, tents, RV sites, swimming, various sports fields, fishing, horseshoe courts and other activities add to the list of amenities for Beekman residents.

From Beekman you can access the Appalachian Trail and, in nearby Holmes, Mt. Egbert. Beekman also has a golf club, and if you’d rather watch them on the greens than join them, there are beautiful views from the Bar & Grill. A few other meet up for a bite or a drink are Brother’s Trattoria, Beekman Square Diner, and Montebello
