Kerhonkson NY homes and the area have draws that go beyond the mountains - one of them being the antique homes (and antique homes for sale of course). It’s with good reason that what is thought to be the nation's oldest public road, Route 209, passes directly through Accord and Kerhonkson. Dutch settlers found the Rondout Valley to be an ideal location for both farming (the valley is quite fertile) and trapping, and Rondout Creek was navigable by boat, so they could transport their goods downstream. It must have been a pretty cushy spot back when you needed to make your living from available natural resources.
Those Dutch settlers built the many beautiful stone houses that are the crown jewels of Upstate NY real estate and still dot the fields of Kerhonkson NY. Today Kerhonkson’s agricultural roots are bringing forth new fruit.
Farm stands abound, and there are more farmers in the Rondout Valley each year. If you want to cultivate your own garden or full-blown farm you’ll find yourself in good company here. In the hills of Kerhonkson there is forested land, peace, quiet and tranquility. Many artists and celebrities call these hills home and enjoy life out of the public eye.
When you’ve tired yourself out exploring the mountains, growing things or relaxing (can anyone really tire of that?) and you need dinner and a movie, concert, or play, New Paltz and Kingston are both about a 20-minute drive from Kerhonkson.
