A hamlet in the Town of Hurley, West Hurley is Woodstock’s next-door neighbor to the south. You could say West Hurley real estate forms a “suburb” of Woodstock, in the sense that Woodstock is home to the small-business hotspots: restaurants, imaginative and practical shopping places, bars and galleries—and West Hurley is primarily residential. The suburb analogy only goes so far, though, because West Hurley is not suburban in feel. While there are neighborhoods, the houses in those neighborhoods are well-spaced and surrounded by the forests of the Catskills. West Hurley NY also has plenty of private rural homes for sale. On the other hand, West Hurley does boast a Hannaford, and there’s nothing like a handy supermarket for that last-minute bunch of broccoli!
West Hurley is also home to the Ashokan Rail Trail, a super-popular 11-mile trail that runs along the Ashokan Reservoir and offers some of the best scenery in Ulster County. The hamlet of West Hurley is inside the Catskill Park, meaning there are magnificent mountains all around as well as the associated outdoor activities you would imagine. More than 40% of the land in the Catskill Park is owned by the state as part of the Forest Preserve, which translates to a protected, quiet, natural environment of great beauty.

Aside from being a great place to live within minutes of Woodstock and Kingston, West Hurley does have some cool things to do. In the summer, take advantage of the oldest continuously running chamber music concert series in America at Maverick Concerts in the woods off Maverick Road. A magnificent wooden structure built in 1916, with indoor and outdoor seating, the hall has such superb acoustics that the greatest string quartets in the world come back year after year to play there, despite the lack of typical concert hall amenities. There’s a young people’s concert series and a relatively new jazz series, as well.
West Hurley is home to the 28 West Gym, on the corner of Route 28 and Maverick Road, where you’ll find a Nautilus circuit, a well-stocked weight room, cardio machines and personal trainers. There’s a great library in West Hurley, tucked away in the neighborhood just off Route 375 near Route 28, with helpful, friendly folks to work with you.
