Homes For Sale In Millerton NY

If you're looking for real estate in Dutchess County and long for mountain views, Millerton is the place to start your search. Millerton combines the best of the type of mountain living many go to the Catskills for with the meadow-filled beauty of the east side of the Hudson.

The Dutchess County Village of Millerton is an attractive, popular place bordered by the Taconic Hills and just over the state line from Lakeville, Connecticut. The commercial center of the Town of North East, Millerton was named after a Mr. Miller who brought the railroad to town.

Millerton NY History and Lifestyle

Millerton Homes For Sale

At one time, three railroads converged in Millerton. It was the mid-1800s and everything flourished. Much of that era’s architecture has been preserved in Millerton which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

One of the original three rail lines has since been transformed into the 16-mile Harlem Valley Rail Trail, which bisects the village and gets daily use from the residents in town. While the last of the three railroads stopped running in 1980, Millerton’s still a thriving community with routes 22 and 44 providing a steady flow of light tri-state (NY, MA and CT) traffic. The village itself is an eclectic mix of businesses set amidst charming mid-19th and 20th-century buildings. People are drawn to Millerton because it’s pretty! It's the kind of place where you want to sit amongst the antique, hand-made buildings and towering trees in the green spaces and rest your soul.

Everyone loves Millerton! Maybe it’s because they’re sure to find a great cup of coffee, tea, or a local brew when they get to town. They might love browsing the superb wares of one of the best gift shops in the region. There's a great book/music store and a very cool clothing and accessories shop with the surprise of local groceries downstairs. Some are fans of the diner and the tapas restaurant. Art lovers come for the galleries and antique shops. You’ve got to love a place where businesses devote a whole day each year to art and artists

Millerton is a place where you can browse in a pollinator garden or pick up a map of 26 historic sites and take a self-guided tour of Millerton’s oldest surviving properties, including the mid-19th-century Irondale Schoolhouse. Just a few miles south of the village is one of New York’s oldest certified-organic farms, a great place to grab some locally sourced foods for a picnic at Veterans Park or Rudd Pond or in your own backyard, if you’re lucky enough to be a Millerton NY homeowner.
