There's so much to do in Putnam County, NY - it can be hard to decide! Contact one of our Local Experts at Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty. We'd love to give you our recommendation on the best things to do in Putnam County.
One of the things we love most about Putnam County is the many lakes. Some of the lakes are reservoirs – all of the lakes augment the beauty of the landscape that residents enjoy daily. Regulations put in place to protect the reservoirs and their watershed have also protected the rural character of this landscape. Watershed land in combination with the county and state park systems have created an oasis of green space in Putnam County NY. It’s no wonder Putnam County has been a summer resort destination since the end of the 19th century, when the railroads began transporting residents out of the hot city for vacations in the Hudson Valley. Times have changed, and while Putnam County feels like an escape, it’s commutable and home to many who work in both NYC, Westchester, and Connecticut. Putnam County is famous for its historic properties including Boscobel and the Walter Brewster House—and the charming architecture in its village centers like Cold Spring. A healthy balance has been achieved between development and conservation, between change and preservation.
If we had to choose just one place we love in Putnam County NY, it would be Hudson Highlands State Park, for the magnificent juxtaposition of mountains and river. If you can make it during the week, do; it’s a place for contemplation, on the weekends it’s a place to meet friends outside! But don’t think we’re only interested in the wonders of nature. We also love the many wonderful shops, restaurants, galleries and other small businesses around the county… a lot!
What else do we like about Putnam County? NYC is so close! When you’ve just got to get a blast of city atmosphere or need to get to your business, the Harlem Line stops at Brewster, Southeast and Patterson; the Hudson Line stops at Philipstown, Garrison, Cold Spring and Breakneck Ridge.
If you’d rather drive, the Taconic State Parkway, I-684 or Saw Mill River Parkway will get you there in less than 1.5 hours… depending on your ability to weave in and out of traffic and, naturally, time of day, how fast you go, the weather, etc.
Have we got you convinced? If you’re considering moving to Putnam County NY, call! We'll be your expert guides while you look for homes for sale.
When you’re hunting for Putnam County homes for sale, you’ll find everything from one-bedroom condos to jaw-dropping waterfront estates; the majority are single-family detached residences, but there are a few low-rise condo buildings and town-home developments.
You might be interested in a private, contemporary Putnam County 6,600+-square-foot retreat 1000 feet above the Hudson River with views of the Highlands, the Catskills and everything in between. Recently on the market, a 19-century Victorian Putnam County home of nearly 7,000 square feet on the shores of Lake Gleneida with the quintessential rocking-chair porch and gorgeous hand-made interior detailing. A more modest Putnam County home might be a colonial farm on 12 acres, where you can enjoy morning coffee on a balcony overlooking the spring-fed pond.
