Brewster real estate is about quiet, laid-back living. How great does that sound?
Brewster NY is just a train-ride from Manhattan to a historic station (where you’ll see your friends coming and going on the daily) and a few miles from Connecticut. It’s described by its residents as, “a beautiful place to live, close enough to NYC to be there within an hour but far enough away to enjoy the trees, mountains, birds, lakes…”, and as a, “small town with friendly people.” It is also (to be clear) a village within the Putnam County town of Southeast.

Some residents and homeowners say it’s a quiet town, that they especially like Brewster for it’s small-town community feel and the laid-back atmosphere of the village. There are things to do, of course, depending on what you like. We might have asked the Brewster-ites we polled what their favorite thing to order is at Bob’s Diner or the Red Rooster, two long-standing, popular eateries, or which of the local historic attractions they love most: the Walter Brewster house, the Old Doansburg Schoolhouse, the Southeast Museum? For outdoor activity, there’s the Putnam Trailway that connects Brewster and Mahopac, there’s the Brewster Ice Arena, also known for its restaurant; the 95+-year-old Vails Grove Golf Course, and the town beach at Tonnetta Lake where swimming is the order of the summer. During apple season people love Salinger’s Orchard, Farm Market & Bakery for what they grow; year-round they’re also known for their baked goods, honey and syrup.
Brewster's Community events include the Brewster Fall Festival every September and the Brewster Theater Company’s full-season of live entertainment that also offers opportunities for community members to perform. Brewster’s Cultural Arts Coalition is home to performing and visual arts programs. Residents take part in these recreational activities and go to nearby Carmel or Mahopac for even more options.
