Durham is part of “The Great Northern Catskills,” which means opportunities for hunting and fishing, skiing, hiking, biking, camping, swimming, gardening, woodland meditation, tree crafts and stream-side reading. Old-school fun such as the Zoom Flume, miniature golf and bowling can still be found as you travel the quiet roads through East Durham NY. And the farms! There are farms where visitors can stay the night and help with the chores, organic farms where you can pick apples while overlooking the mountains and farms where you can buy home-made cheeses, home-packed honey, maple syrup and hand-made items.
East Durham NY is kind of quaint. There’s not a lot of development, but there is a great deal of charm and atmosphere. It’s a place where you can relax. If you feel like catching up to modern times, Windham and Hunter aren’t far away for dining and boutique shopping.
