The many transportation options available in Fishkill and East Fishkill are what make East Fishkill NY so attractive to businesses. The former IBM campus in East Fishkill is now iPark 84, a 300-acres facility with more than two million square feet of space for retail, hotels and residents. At the heart of iPark 84, GlobalFoundries, IBM and eMagin employ over 2,500 people. iPark worked with Think Dutchess to attract tenants for the Food Hub, Cozzini Brothers Knives, Sloop Brewery, More Good Syrups & Mixers and Jane Bakes Fishkill, bringing over 100 new jobs to East Fishkill NY (and some yummy options for residents)! Amazon's 600,000+-square-foot warehouse lures many workers to the area.
Hopewell Junction is the hub of East Fishkill, and the hub of Hopewell Junction, more or less, is the intersection of routes 376 and 82, where residents often go for your banking, pharmacies, hardware stores, markets and local eateries. But there are places to eat all over East Fishkill NY, including the Blue Fountain Italian restaurant. Enjoy an American/continental meal in an 1863 Georgian Colonial, Le Chambord at Curry Estate.
Tso’s Asian Cuisine serves, amongst other things, a “Tokyo Hot Dog” and bubble tea. Plated Modern American Bistro calls itself “a fun local restaurant for a burger and a beer.” Stormville Pizza is known for slices “as big as your face.”
“The oldest bar in Dutchess County,” the Hopewell Inn, which was originally housing for 19th-century railroad workers, is now “a true local dive bar” that's known for its old-style charm, its man-made “beach” out back, a 75-year-old shuffleboard court and open mic nights; someone commented on Facebook: “If you're searching for a trendy spot to grab a craft IPA and an organic, non-fat, gluten-free, vegan, kale salad... you'll hate this place.” We love it! If you do want a craft beer, check out the international, ever-changing selection at Collins Ale House. When it comes to hanging out in East Fishkill, you can go low or high, old-school or new, depending on your mood!
Compared with much of the Hudson Valley, Fishkill is relatively flat, which presents the opportunity for golf! Try Dogwood Knolls' nine holes in Hopewell Junction. There’s also Par Fore and the Fishkill Golf Course and Driving Range just down the road.
For more sports and community activities, residents can take advantage of the many year-round programs offered by East Fishkill Rec. Locals throng the parks for the summer concert series and annual Community Day; senior programs take place at the East Fishkill Community Center. Starting in May people take out their fishing rods and head for Red Wing Lake. There are volleyball and basketball leagues for adults and teens, there’s Pickleball, summer camp, movies in the park, language classes and lots more. Here’s a list of all the town parks and playgrounds.
A great spot to get fresh air, fresh food and a nice hard cider is Fishkill Farms. In the same family for more than 100 years, at Fishkill Farms guests can get out in the field and pick their own veggies and fruits; choose from a wide selection of garden supplies, fresh baked goods, local cheese, eggs and more in the farm store; or relax with a glass of their Treasury Hard Cider in the garden overlooking the orchards and mountains.
Another go-to recreational spot in East Fishkill is the popular Dutchess Rail Trail at Hopewell Depot; from there it’s 13.4-miles to the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie. The Maybrook Line of the Empire State Trail reaches 24 miles in the opposite direction to Brewster. Just across the way is the Hopewell Depot Museum & Park, which - besides demonstrating how the industrial era affected a quiet rural town and how railroads affected life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries - is an option if you care to volunteer for a local institution. Local volunteers help maintain the buildings, run the museum, act as tour guides, spearhead fundraising efforts, preserve historic collections and serve on the Board of Trustees.
The East Fishkill Community Library is another place to get involved with the community through reading groups, classes and exhibitions in their showcase and on the gallery walls, where they show a different artist’s work every month. The Beekman Arts Club hosts gallery shows of art “from all over” in their historic barn; it’s also an event venue.
For more volunteering opportunities and special events, like a Strawberry Festival, Farm Day and Holiday Open House, visit the Brinckerhoff House Historic Site, home of the East Fishkill Historical Society.
A town supervisor called East Fishkill a “bedroom community,” and that translates to lots of East Fishkill NY homes for sale.
