The Town of Marlborough’s hamlet of Marlboro is the southeastern-most locale in Ulster County, bordering Orange County in the south and the Hudson River in the east. Marlboro presents a unique real estate opportunity for Upstate NY homebuyers. Being handy to Orange County means having the City of Newburgh and all its amenities less than 10 miles away (and NYC less than 80 miles). Being New Paltz's neighbor means there's always plenty of entertainment, education, dining and boutique shopping to be had. Being next to the Hudson River means no matter what else is happening, the river remains a natural wonder, a place of beauty.
The landscape is so lush in Marlboro, partly because the Lattintown Creek meets the Hudson River here and flows up and along the main business thoroughfare of the hamlet, Western Avenue, then northwest out of town, creating a fertile valley, home to many farms and vineyards. Apples, raspberries and grapes are the main crops in the area, and you can still find many of the original farms from when Marlboro was founded - work with a great agent, and you may catch one on the real estate market.Further west is the Marlboro Mountains range, from which even more waters flow.
Saint Hubert’s Lodge is a pet-friendly B&B where you can relax after house-hunting all day in Marlboro. Guests can enjoy sweet & savory delights at Danskammer House’s afternoon tea.
Shaupeneak Ridge views take in the Hudson River & Catskills… when the leaves fall! West Shore Marine provides slips, storage, repairs, spring commissioning, boat detailing & sales.
The Art Effect is hoping to bring about positive social change by empowering youth. The Frances Lehman Loeb Art Center, among other great works, has one of Francis Bacon’s popes!
Marlboro is an area rich in long-standing farms, so get out there & and enjoy the difference freshness and no time in a truck makes. All through the summer, most of Marlboro's farms have stands where you’ll find fresh-picked fruits & vegetables!
Spaghetti with Baby Eggplant & Wild Mushroom/Mirin Bolognese at Ship Lantern Inn! Pasta & Broccoli Rabe at Brix Gastropub! Cheese Quesadilla & Caesar Salad at Raccoon Saloon!
Fitness and Lifestyle are just as much about the outdoors as in Marboro. However, one indoor highlight is Gravity Vault indoor rock gym! So Cool!
Hempire State Growers are pioneering the positive environmental impact of growing organic hemp! Poughkeepsie Galleria Mall has two floors full of all the stores you’re looking for!

Get out the binoculars for a day at the bird sanctuary at Cluett-Schantz Memorial Park in neighboring Milton, where you’re likely to see everything from the white-breasted nuthatch to a belted kingfisher. Not a birder? The park is full of folks year-round enjoying the bocci courts (there’s a league!), basketball courts, fishing in the two ponds (with a license, of course), using the trails, the new playground, picnic tables, grills and a gaga ball pit.
Cluett-Schantz park also hosts the Heart of the Hudson Valley Farmers Market where Hepworth Farms leads a list of local growers and providers, including Locust Grove Fruit Farm, Porco Homestead Farms (lavender, garlic, mushrooms), Queen City Farm Distillery (small-batch spirits from the organic apples and honey of Prospect Hill Orchards) and others providing baked goods, maple syrup, honey, eggs, cheese and other luscious local foods and goods.
The 83-acre Hemlock Ridge Multiple Use Area is just a bit northwest on the side of Marlboro Mountain for primitive camping and whatever one gets up to in the wilderness. The Gomez Mill House Museum is a gorgeous place to have in the neighborhood; in its park-like setting the picturesque Dard Hunter mill still sits over the waterfall. Throughout the year their Sunday at Mill House series presents talks, concerts, poetry, picnics and historical presentations. It’s a great cultural resource!
The Town of Marlborough is lucky to have two libraries: Marlboro Free Library recently received a National Grant. In Milton is the Sarah Hull Hallock Free Library; one of their recent programs was a community conversation to “learn people’s aspirations for their community and about the kind of community they want to create.” Creative arts flourish in Marlboro. One of Marlboro’s most popular and storied spots is The Falcon. They’ve been a musician’s mecca since the first day they opened. And they’re not only about music, but art, too: they have a 2,500-square-foot art viewing space. Dig the music, dig the art, enjoy the food, hang out over the falls and the Hudson River.
The other long-standing Marlboro hot-spot is the 1827 Raccoon Saloon, a few doors south of the Falcon. Their charming, old dining room and bar has been a Marlboro mainstay for over 40 years overlooking the Hudson River: "We are casual but serious about food." It’s another hang-out that keeps locals coming back. Not to say there aren’t other restaurants and bars in Marlboro. But the aura of the Falcon and Raccoon kind of hover in Marlboro.
In terms of community activity, Marlboro’s got lots of traditions, including a somewhat spooky Dark Side of Marlboro Walking Tour every October, Easter in the Park, Memorial Day and July Fourth parades, Community Day and annual Seniors Picnic sponsored by the Marlboro-Milton Lions Club.
Marlboro’s a great place to live!
