Round Top was once a hotspot of the Catskills. Rural, mountainous, and home to lots of wildlife it was also home to summer resorts that patrons returned to year after year. It fell out of vogue, and for decades was quiet - home to the happy few who understood its beauty and value and mountain bikers who did their best to keep it under wraps. Now, the resorts (many of which have been there all along) are back and with them a growing notoriety. Round Top real estate is once again in-demand!
Glens Falls House is an exemplar of Round Top's journey. Since 1881 there’s been a country resort at the site of Glen Falls at Round Top. It underwent a hip revamp not too long ago, and now Glen Falls House is a place to be and be seen. If you're browsing the area for homes for sale definitely get over there to check out the tavern, restaurant and music events! Summer brings the opening of a pool bar, beer garden, provisions general store, hiking trails, cut flower and herbs from their farm garden for sale, florist services and an apothecary.
Down the road, Riedlbauer’s Resort has a full schedule of events from April through October; highlights include the annual Round Top Soccer Tournament and a Bavarian Summer Fest and hot rod show. They get together with the Blackhead Mountain Golf & Country Club for a yearly spring golf tournament, and the Resort is one of the trailheads for the Round Top Mountain Bike Association.
Blackhead Mountain is where you’ll find one of the few restaurant’s right in Round Top: Maasmann’s. At the former location of Hartmann's Kaffeehaus, there’s Henning’s Local Test Kitchen, a new venue for dining and marketing, run by Escoffier-trained Henning Nordanger, who once had the distinction of cooking for the King of Norway!

The par-72 layout at Blackwood Mountain Lodge & Country Club offers spectacular views, as does the trail at Mawignac Preserve Loop! The Athens pool offers summer memberships.
Altamura Center offers music & theater programs & hosts “Encounters with the Masters” for aspiring singers. The Petronio Residency Center nurtures contemporary dance artists!
Enjoy the views at East Durham & Stoneledge organic farms. Romp with the rabbits, cuddle the kittens, fish in the pond, go for a hayride, explore the acres of fields at Hull-O Farms.
Create Your Own Omelet at Log Cabin Café! Baked Brie with Brandied Apples at Maassmann’s! Potato Pancakes at Mountain Brauhaus! Overnight Oats at Trotwood Restaurant!
Hair Lab offers mani-pedis & waxing, anti-aging facials, paraffin hand-dips & up-dos. Drop Dead Barbershop has traditional services as well as a pool table & home-style hospitality.
The Westerner is the place to go for clothing, gifts, cards & lots of fun stuff. At Hodge Podge you’ll find oodles of goods to browse through! Have a good read at Magpie Book Shop.
There are three waterfalls on Glen Falls Trails: Glen Falls, Reidlbauer’s Falls and East Kill Falls. Residents and tourists alike use the giant water slides at Zoom Flume Water Park to cool off.
There's so much to do in Round Top, NY - it can be hard to decide! Contact one of our Local Experts at Village Green Realty. We'd love to give you our recommendation on the best things to do in Round Top.
Round Top is first and foremost a place to get outdoors. There’s Colgate Lake Wild Forest just south of Round Top and the Elm Ridge Wild Forest just north; combined, that’s nearly 3,000 acres of playground for camping, biking, hiking, fishing, cross-country skiing, horseback riding. North of town is the relatively small Cairo Lockwood State Forest for more of the same.
Round Top is also a hamlet of Cairo where Round Top residents go for errands and necessities. There are insurance agencies, banks, the hardware store, gas stations, the garage, a funeral home, the library, fast food, the supermarket, town hall and other small-town must-haves on Route 23. There are 19th-century church buildings, historic houses, trees shading Main Street, the post office and, right next door, a mainstay of the hamlet, the Cozy Cup Deli; check out their daily specials on their Facebook page, and get your order in early. They’re very busy!
Other places to eat and drink in Cairo: O’Neill’s Café, a friendly local spot open early morning through mid-afternoon, featuring an Irish breakfast “second only to one in Ireland”; Two Brothers Pizza, satisfying the universal craving; Red Rooster Bar & Grill with appetizer-entrée-dessert specials, Taco Tuesdays and a great outdoor deck for soaking up the sun and your beverage of choice.
Cairo’s Angelo Canna Town Park is where you’ll find the ball fields, tennis and basketball courts, dog park, walking path, picnic area, playground and the annual homespun Greene County Youth Fair, a 4-H Club event which began in 1949; still largely focused on agriculture, it’s now a four-day July celebration of the talents of local youth, featuring a horse show, exhibits, rides, music, a classic car show and vendors.
The Cairo Nature Preserve is a small park around an old reservoir with picnic tables and hiking trails. For you archaeologists out there, evidence of the world’s oldest forest was recently turned up in Cairo!
