Perhaps Middletown is called Middletown because it’s between tother cities in Orange County: Newburgh and Port Jervis. Whatever the reason for it's name, it is a great place for people who like an urban environment but also want to be close to the countryside. Buying Middletown real estate means being right in the middle of everything Orange County has to offer and a manageable distance to NY City.

There's so much to do in Middletown, NY - it can be hard to decide! Contact one of our Local Experts at Village Green Realty. We'd love to give you our recommendation on the best things to do in Middletown.
Middletown offers homeowners, residents and visitors an impressive array of foodie options! You can spend weeks in the same historic neighborhood and never get bored with the offerings. If you start at the intersection of North and South streets and East and West Main street (that’s just one intersection despite the many directions), you’ll find some of the best the City of Middletown has to offer. Down the street Festival Square is the place Middletonians go for concerts and special events.
Next door to Festival Square is J’s Place, a great neighborhood hangout for wine flights and some very nice food, like eggplant sliders and vegetable lasagna. Keep going west and take a right on Henry Street, where you’ll find Tapped’s craft beer selection and homemade fare like fried pickles or vegan tacos.
If you head east from Festival Square and cross the street, you’ll run into Olivia’s Empanadas, which means rice and beans with everything, 10 kinds of empanadas, and other Dominican delights. If you make a left out of Olivia’s and then turn right you'll come to the site of the weekly Middletown Farmers Market.
Go back to where James intersects Depot Street and follow that around to North Street, stopping at Bee Soulful on the way, where everything is infused with honey! Now go back down North Street, because that’s where you’ll find Oak & Reed, named after “The Oak and the Reeds,” Aesop’s fable about resilience, which is the restauranteurs' homage to the revitalization of Middletown; and the Taco Factory, serving “culinary-level cuisine from Mexico's central-northern state of Zacatecas.”
When you’re back on West Main Street, you’ve more choices, between Japanese and Italian or Puerto Rican fare at Brunhilda’s Cuchifrito (plus an outdoor bar and live music). Turn down South Street to reach Equilibrium Brewery and the acoustically superb Art Deco Paramount Theatre, a local landmark on the National Register of Historic Places, where you’ll find everything from jazz to Broadway, to movies.
From the Paramount take your choice of two bakeries. If you turn right onto East Main you’ll soon arrive at a 30-year old family bakery, DeFilippi’s. If you go straight up from South Street onto North Street you’ll find Something Sweet Bakery & Café, offering not just dessert but also American entrees with an Italian flair.
Needless to say a big city like Middletown has more on its mind than food and drink, but all these restaurants sure make meal planning easy for those who choose to live there! This area also happens to be home to several historic buildings beyond the Paramount Theatre, such as the John G. Beakes House at 134 West Main. Just north is the Greek Revival style, circa 1842 John Morris Cash house at 59 Wickham Avenue and just south, at 115 South Street, sits the Webb Horton Mansion built from 1901-07, which now serves as an administrative building for Orange County Community College. Not far from there is Maple Hill Park, site of Middletown's Dog Park and Maple Hill swimming pool, one of three town pools located in the nearly 20 Middletown parks.
If you circle around this neighborhood again you'll find the Historical Society of Middletown and Wallkill Precinct and the Mulberry House Senior Center.
And here’s where we get to Middletown being an urban environment that's closely connected to the country: Stay on West Main Street and turn onto Van Duzer Road; within two miles you’ll be at a 1,250-acre watershed area known as the Middletown Reservoir Trails. This area is an outdoor hotspot for locals who come to take in the three lakes and the possibility of seeing all sorts of fascinating wildlife. For golfing, tennis and a pool, there's Middletown's West Hills Country Club. If your thing is horses, there’s Beyond the Bit. For non-motorized boating in the Wallkill River, here’s a map of put-ins in Middletown and its surrounds. Soons Orchard is a popular spot for produce shopping, apples and peaches, the tap room, farm dinners and baked goods from Scotty’s Country Kitchen. For mall shopping there’s the Galleria at Crystal Run.
Middletown real estate is everything from the sublime to the comfortable, from townhomes to brownstones.
If you’ve always wanted to drive through stone gateposts to reach your home we might find something like the Middletown villa that was recently listed on over five acres.
Then again, you might like to build from scratch, in which case, let's see if we can find you a land lot atop a rise with meadows, woods and mountain views!
