Mari painted from her home in Woodstock looking out to a hillside on one side and her gardens on the other. Her love of flowers and her unique collection of vases and sculptural objects always inspired Mari to create her bold and colorful paintings. The flowers span three seasons and the color wheel in striking strokes of oil paint. Mari’s beloved carved wooden rooster is featured in two works with floral accompaniment. Mari was a painter’s painter, with her work deeply rooted in the practice of drawing. Drawing from the figure on a regular basis, her fluid strokes integrate space and form throughout her work. Mari painted daily, she was a highly prolific artist.
Mari had four children and was the devoted wife of Nick Lyons, writer and editor. She died in 2016, leaving a large number of paintings and drawings. She sold paintings regularly throughout her life but left a substantial body of work, all of which is currently stored in a Kingston studio. Studio visits are welcome. A large number of her works can be seen on her website.
