Kabinett and Kammer Andes NY

Kingston Design Showhouse Pt. 3

For years we've been following the Instagram channel of an antique shop in Andes - Kabinett and Kammer. They carry a particular vintage decor element that I'm obsessed with (I'll leave you guessing on that one), so I'm a big fan. I was so excited to hear that Sean Scherer the shopkeeper of Kabinett and Kammer was a member of The Kingston Design Connection and was going to take part in the Kingston Design Showhouse. He has a style that is wholly his own and I knew whatever he did would be layered and unique. Seeing his room, I was not disappointed. I got the chance to chat with him about his shop, how he found Andes, and his involvement in the Kingston Design Showhouse a few days ago. His story is so like so many

Hoping your Catskill Escape Will Have a Stream?

One of the most relaxing things you can do this time of year in the Catskills & Hudson Valley Region is to pack yourself a thermos of tea, find a rock by a stream, and watch beautifully colored leaves float down a stream. How lovely does that sound? Streams are equally entertaining in the winter, when their edges freeze up, providing endless opportunities for ice crunching; in summer, when the moving water can cool your feet and offer a chance to observe wildlife; and in spring when their power and size change daily.

Streams are calming, so calming that corporations build them into the lobbies of their headquarters, people incorporate them into their homes via small water fixtures, and the

Catskills and Hudson Valley Real Estate - A Tour Via Fireplace

Fall has arrived and it's just about time for our first indoor fires of the year. Sometimes a client's search for a home in the Catskills and Hudson Valley revolves entirely around a single feature; the fireplace. It's that important! A fireplace in the right place, in the right style, and of the right size is integral to many people's vision of "home". So, in honor of the crisp air I've clicked and sorted and pulled together a pile of properties with fireplaces to suit every taste and budget. Just imagine spending an afternoon in front of each one of these.

P.S. most of these homes have a lot of other great features as well.

Clockwise from upper left:

Musical Pedigree & Elegance - 441 Clum Hill Road, Hunter, NY

441 Clum Hill Road

Drama. It’s everywhere. Even in our homes. When it comes to residential theatricality there are two types: good and bad. We’re all familiar with the bad sort – teenagers slamming doors, toddlers crying over spilled milk, etc, etc. But the good type of drama isn’t always immediately obvious, unless your home is at 441 Clum Hill Road in Hunter, NY. This house is a shining paragon of the right kind of domestic drama!

The drama begins with 441 Clum Hill Road's storied pedigree. It was built in 1902 as a personal residence with impressive architecture designed to capture equally impressive views. Later it became a school for the study of Opera. Singers, teachers,

A Catskills Log Home

A well-sited house. When you start with a beautiful piece of land, land with a bewitching pond, views of mountains and rolling hills, views of vibrantly colored sunsets, views of night skies peppered with stars… when you start with 5 acres within easy distance of 3 ski mountains, it almost doesn’t matter what the house is like, just so long as it takes advantage of the location.

But, when the house is a fabulous log home with 7,000 square feet of living space, lots of thoughtful touches, and endless possibilities for fun, well, that’s a big bonus. 37 Notch View in Lexington undeniably has the type of property that is enough all on its own, and the house is sited to maximize the

Escape The Everyday

Find Enchantment in Chichester, a Hamlet in Ulster County NY

There’s a hamlet in the Catskills that people from beyond the park’s borders haven’t always heard of. No, it’s not Phoenicia, the cat’s out of the bag on that one. It’s closethough. A bend in Route 214 on the way out of Phoenicia protects the special hamlet of Chichester from the gaze of the outside world. If you come around that bend, and slow down long enough to notice, you might find yourself pulling over to get a better look at this unique little enclave. Chichester was founded by the sons of the builder of the famous Catskill Mountain House, as a place for their furniture factory employees to live and work. They built 44 buildings in a style that might be

Great Game Rooms of The Hudson Valley and Catskills

You know what I love about fall? The Chill. I don't just mean the chill in the air (which is delicious), I mean the fact that in the fall, I can chill! All summer I feel obligated to knock it out of the park, to have as much outdoor fun as humanly possible. Hiking, swimming, boating, beach walking, bbq'ing, playing guitar on the lawn, supervising night time games of man-hunt, biking, cartwheels....my family shoehorns the maximum amount of activity into every single day. It can get a little...um...exhausting! In the summer I feel like going inside is a betrayal of a glorious gift. That's a lot of pressure!

Every year by the time we get to Labor Day I am so ready for a stiff breeze to roll in.

 Live in Grand Victorian Style

While most of us don’t wear smoking jackets or silk dressing gowns on a regular basis, if you make 718 Merwin Street in Jewett your own, you’ll want to add some to your wardrobe in order to feel fully at home. Since this home is best enjoyed by a crowd, you might want a few extras on hand so your guests can fit in too.

Greene County Farmland - The Basics Plus!

Often when there’s a parcel of Greene County farmland available it is accompanied by a barn. This parcel, at 13.5 acres, does not disappoint. It is some of the loveliest farm land we’ve seen with beautiful views of the mountains (including Hunter Mountain), stone walls, a pond, grand old trees, waving fields, and a gorgeous, huge, red barn. The barn

Onteora Park Open House June 25th 1-5pm

948 Country Route 25, Tannersville NY 12485

“The fine arts should be regarded as the crowning glory of all the arts, equally necessary and useful to man, who in his desire to reach the perfect existence, with the joy of life as the spring of his impulses, draws from nature about him every element possible which will contribute to his pleasure and satisfaction.”

-George Reid, Painter and Architect of 948 Country Route 25, Tannersville.

Onteora Park is living, breathing Americana, and a bit of a titillating mystery. Even if you’ve lived in the Catskills for a good long time, you may never have heard of it. If you have heard the whispers of the private enclave of grand arts and crafts

 523 Mitchell Hollow Road

You hear it all the time, “Everyone needs a getaway”, or something along those lines. In real estate it’s the most basic of clichés. But behind every cliché lies a deep truth. Everyone really does “need a getaway”.

We need the chance to get outside and breath clean air, to expand our personal space bubble outward, beyond the reach of our arms in a T-Rex position, out to epic proportions!

You need a place to do the slightly odd stuff that you really don’t want anyone else to know you do! Do you feel the yearning? You must sing show tunes! You must spend hours making origami vegetables! You must find the perfect acorn and gild into craft perfection! Let’s find you a place to do.

When it comes to the location of a getaway,
