Hudson Valley Food Trucks

Food Trucks… yeah… they’re still cool.

While I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of a food truck fest because there are too many yummy things in one spot and I don’t like to gorge! AND because the areas where many food trucks can convene often don’t have enough shade for my taste – who wants a boutique burger that goes from medium-rare to medium while they take take a sip of their drink between bites? It’s summer – it’s hot! But, while I can pass on the fest - I still love a food truck. They’re still just as delightful as they were a decade ago when they started to make tracks. Chef is still a heartwarming movie with just the right amount of bite.  Food trucks endure – they are still. cool.

So what’s to do? How do we get our truck tacos in the shade? Booking your own foodtruck for a party can kill a whole bunch of proverbial birds with one stone! By getting a food truck (or food trucks) to cater a summer soiree you can have your boutique burger from a chef in a big square van without having to stand in a long hot line at a fest, you can have your clams on the half shell in a shady spot of your choosing, you can down your lobster rolls with a few friends or with dozens. I’ve got a list of local food trucks who are for hire for your summer soiree. No cooking, no cleaning, no sweating, just food truck cuteness and a chance to get to know a culinary wonder who keeps it simple and rolls from place to place.

Pippy's Food Truck

Let’s start with a classic – hot dogs. The “Wienermobile”, arguably the very first food truck, was launched in 1936. If you’re a NY’er a hot dog might be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of mobile eats. A crisp snap of the skin in a warm bun with your favorite sloppy topping – it’s summer in the form of a weird shaped sandwhich. While I wasn’t able to locate a hot-dog shaped hot dog truck for hire in the Hudson Valley, Pippy’s Food Truck out of Palenville, NY is a great alternative. They offer 100% beef hotdogs with natural casing, gluten and MSG free. Offering so many different topping choices and grandma’s special sauces how could you go wrong? They also offer vegan dogs!! Everyone’s happy.

Woodstock Eats

Sometimes, when you have been in the restaurant business for a very long time, you get burnt. Owning your own business in the heart of one of the busiest towns in NY state for 20+ years wearing all the hats is a wild ride that can lead to the need for a little adjustment. That adjustment might come in the form of a food truck that allows you to bring your passion back to life on your own terms and your own schedule. That’s what Jon and Aharon, a dynamic husband and wife team and the owners of Woodstock Eats Food Truck decided to do. With its motto of “Fear no Food” they offer an eclectic mix of Creole/Cajun, Tex Mex, and Asian cuisine that will make your mouth water. Their sesame noodles are delicious!

The Green Palate

When your loved ones are your life and food is your passion what better way to bring it together than with a food truck? Not just any food truck, but a healthy, vegan, gluten free, organic, family owned and operated food truck. “Peace Love and Vegetables” is the motto of the award winning Green Palate Food Truck. They serve up delicious vegan burgers, salads, knish and spinach pies desserts and more.

Ember's Hudson Valley

Pizza is the number one food delivered in the world, and I think everyone can agree that woodfired pizza is the best sort of pizza. Yes? No? Yes. Embers Wood Fired Oven Food Truck specializes in parties and catering so you can be sure they’ll be ready for your “do”. There’s a Culinary graduate and an event management coordinator behind the wheel of this particular truck and with pies named after 1960’s songs like “Ring of Fire” and “Good Vibrations” they build in a little extra fun for your party. Their reviews speak for themselves.

Ty's Tacoria

Taco parties are the best. Making all the sauces, meats, veggies and tortillas so that you have a good variety of tacos for your friends to choose from? It’s a recipe for frazzled nerves and frizzy hair! Ty’s Taco-Ria has got you! You can color-coordinate your tablescapes to their turquoise truck; they’ll bring the tacos they promise will be, “not ordinary,” and YES, they’ll bring the guac!

Roam Food Truck

Warwick based Roam Food Truck is a good choice for a gourmet partay. Toasts with burrata, herbs and edible flowers are perfect for a garden party. Their Honey Bunny salad will save your from the guilt of offering your guests only too much. Their offerings are the perfect combo of portable, elevated, and just sloppy enough to be recognizable as food truck food.

Gracie's Food Truck

Everyone at CBVGR is a fan of Gracie’s Dinette in Leeds – we find any excuse to meet up there with clients or one another. Their fish sandwiches? Yum. Their salads? Yum. Their doughnuts? YUM! They’ve got a food truck, and being the pros they are it can serve up to 200 people at a time for between $25 and $35 per person. Your party will be amazing.

Pop's Place

Pop’s Place is a roving Irish Pub which served up “the best stew I’ve ever, ever had,” to one of our staff members. High praise! Put this one on your books for the fall, toss around some plaid blankets, invite your friends with instruments to jam – it’s the perfect, easy party.

Now, what about beverages? Whether you want to serve ice coffees and latte’s, beers on draft, or specialty cocktails, there’s a cute cart that will come to you.

Tapped Into The Catskills

Tapped Into The Catskills tagline is “Parking a Party at Your Event.” Cute! What they park is a delightful vintage trailer renovated for drinks service. They feature craft brews and spirits made locally and attention to detail in their custom cocktails, decorative elements, and service.

HV Stirrup

HV Stirup is another pretty little mobile bar. Upcycled from a vintage horse trailer – hence the name – the trailer and their drinks have style.

Manifest Your Coffee

High Falls based Minifest Your Coffee’s espresso machine lives inside an adorable converted (wait for it…) horse trailer. While we’re beginning to wonder if there are any trailers left for the horses, we’re impressed with all the wonderful ways local entrepreneurs are using them! Manifest makes their own sugar-free flavorings and are game for just about every kind of party.

Back to the food!

La Tres Americas

La Tres Americas latin fusion truck has a Best Of The Hudson Valley award to fortify the reviews of their great tacos, empanadas, and yuca fries. Their truck is a no-nonsense stainless steel – this is serious food.

Spacey Tracey's

Does anyone who’s spent time in the Hudson Valley not know Spacey Tracy and her pickles? They’re garlicky, dilly, preserved goodness. There’s real, HUGE chunks of garlic floating in the pickle juice (which makes a mean dip for you chips)! Spacey Tracy’s food truck offers her delicious pickles fried. I think we can just leave it at that!

This And That

This and That Food Truck is “Columbia County’s Most Popular Food Truck.” Why? They serve a variety of good stuff. They seem like a great choice if what you’re going for is pleasing party guests of varying ages and pallets. When you need a little of this and that, they’ve got it.

Waffle De Lys

Yes! You knew they were coming – the waffles. While waffles from home can seem pedestrian, waffles from a cart seem wonderful. These waffles are served from a trailer or a cart with French flair, ice cream, and theeeeeese toppings: homemade whipped cream, belgian chocolate, salted caramel sauce, Nutella, raspberry coulis, caramelized hazelnut crumbs, shredded coconut, maple syrup, reese's peanut butter cups, crunchy speculoos, mango & passion fruit coulis, fresh bananas, and fresh strawberries. Something about their cart makes me want to plan a party where everyone wears white, listens to a string quartet concert and takes advantage of their all-you-can-eat Belgian waffle package then goes for a swim.

Farmers And Chefs

Farmers and Chefs has a restaurant in Poughkeepsie and food trucks that fans follow around the Hudson Valley. They’ll pull their truck up in their field and serve up a farm to table menu that might include sockeye salmon, fresh ravioli, heirloom carrots or a tartar.

Frites Of NY

Frites Of NY might seem like a “keep it simple” solution. Why would I end with that? But no, no! Frites Of NY serves fries with all kinds of interesting stuff on them and is worthy of the last slot for sure. “The Notorious P.I.G” fries are topped with Pulled Pork, Homemade Slaw, BBQ Sauce and Fried Onion Strings and the “Strong Island” fries have  Fried Clams, Homemade Slaw and Lemon Caper Tartar Sauce. All of their offerings are creative and delightfully unhealthy.
