The Catskills and Hudson Valley have events upon events upon events in the summer. This is in no way an exhaustive list of what's going on in Greene County, Ulster County, Columbia County, Dutchess County, and Orange County. What it is is a selection of the type of events that make living in this region so special from The Local Experts in Upstate Real Estate - the sort of events we all attend every weekend.
HITS On Hudson
Where: Saugerties, NY
We mentioned this last month - but it's still happening! All summer long! 9 weeks of equestrian events in Saugerties; 3 million dollars in prizes; these events are exciting and a great outing, even if you don't consider yourself an equestrian or even an equestrian-adjacent.
Rosendale Street Festival
Where: Rosendale, NY
70 Band on 3 stages in one of the Hudson Valley's cutest little towns? Yes please. Rosendale's been doing street festivals the way they should be done for a good long time. Go where the pros know how to put on a show!
Waterfront Wednesdays
Where: Saugerties, NY
Events like this only happen in places packed with creatives. Every week, in Saugerties, the Arm-Of-The-Sea Theatre offers hands-on art projects, history lessons, performance and information on river ecology. Make it there some Wednesday this summer.
The 39 Steps
Where: Ellenville, NY
A fun night at the theatre. Who doesn't need one of those? Here's the synopsis for what looks to be a great show at one of the Hudson Valley's few pro theaters:
Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you get this fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! This two-time Tony Award-winning treat is packed with nonstop laughs and over 150 characters, resulting in a riotous evening of pure pleasure.
Bella's Bartok! Freak Folk & Dark Carnival Music at Colony
Where: Woodstock, NY
Bella's Bartok is coming to the Colony in Woodstock! This band totally fits into our most recent newsletter's "weird" theme. Here, in their own words, is what goes down during one of their performances...
"“Live your fantasy and embrace the stranger side of life with Bella’s Bartok. A band known for raucous theatrical performances and an outspoken political message of finding hope in a world beset by cruel uncertainty. With utter joy, they seamlessly blend a rich cacophony of sound and soul into their music with influences ranging from Punk to Folk and Pop to Americana. Let your freak flag fly high, fiercely and free, throw your societal inhibitions to the wayside and seek comfort in the warm sonic embrace of Bella’s Bartok. We are the night and you are bound to boogie.”
Come, let your freak flag fly!
Nourishing Flow
Where: Red Hook, NY
Outdoor yoga at the O Zone in Red Hook. The O Zone is a cool community store that helps people make sustainable choices. They also have yoga! This outdoor session is lead by Jess Blake and meant to align your personal energy with the earth and the seasons through a nourishing outdoor practice
Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival
Where: Oak Hill, NY
This is a HUGE bluegrass festival in Greene County. 4 days of performances, camping, vendors - the whole nine yards of bluegrass fun. Make a weekend of it. Not a camper? Here are our recommendations for lodging in the Durham, Windham and Hunter areas.
Taste of the Catskills Irish Arts Week
Where: East Durham, NY
The Irish tradition in the Catskills lives on - for a whole week! If you're looking for a super-hip place to stay while you're in the area, drive just a little ways to Round Top and stay at Glen Falls House - the pool there is a scene.
