Events & Activities In The Catskills & Hudson Valley | January 2023
Posted by Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty on Friday, December 23rd, 2022 at 12:16pm
Let's face it, January can be a bit of a let down if we let it. After the holidays something inside most of us says, "kick back, chill out!" BUT that can make us feel a wee bit bummed out by the end of the month. Instead, let's see January as an opportunity! An opportunity to do it all - see a jazz quartet, go to a ceramics workshop, a leather-working class, and a Dolly Parton western dance party! Check out these wonderful local events and experience something new!
Ladies Basketball
Where: West Point, New York
Games at West Point are a whole experience. The campus and the views are beautiful and the cadets at West Point take their sport so seriously they're almost a spectacle of dedication. Of course, you can attend any home game of the season, but the ladies basketball team is playing BU (Boston University) on January 15th at 3pm.
Intro to Wheel Throwing (Adults) with Beth Shoenf
Where: Kingston, New York
6:30PM - 8:30PM
Making pottery is something so many people want to try. Our founder, Joan Lonergan is a fantastic ceramics artist and we’ve got one or two others in our ranks. Here’s a way to make a start without making a huge commitment. This 2.5 hour class is being offered several times in January and will introduce you to the potter’s wheel. You will learn how to center clay and pull walls to make a vessel, and explore a variety of decorating and glazing techniques.
6:00PM - 8:00PM
The Sovereigns Collective’s Full Moon Circle
Where: Chatham, New York
6:30PM - 8:30PM
The Sovereign’s Collective has such a cool and unique mission. “The Sovereigns Collective is an intentional association of natural health enthusiasts and sovereign individuals who share resources for members to utilize on their health journey.” Members of the collective have access to shared holistic health resources including an infrared sauna, ozone therapy and a PEMF mat. Ladies, The Full Moon Women’s Circle is one way to get to know other members. The gathering is held every full moon and members are encouraged to bring a song to share, a poem, an idea, a question, a request, or a topic you want us to focus on for another month's circle...a notebook, a water bottle, or a thermos.
6:00PM - 8:00PM
25th Annual Catskill Ice Climbing Festival 2023
Where: Rosendale, New York
6:30PM - 8:30PM
This event offers 3 days of clinics for everyone from those who have never climbed on ice before to those who are ready to go for a full day of bushwacking adventure. As an added bonus – Rock and Snow is offering gear discounts to climbing festival registrants from the time they sign up through the end of the ice fest.
Chasing Icebergs: Art and a Disappearing Landscape, an exhibition of the work of Frederick Church and contemporary artists at Olana
Where: Hudson, New York
6:30PM - 8:30PM
This seems like a must-see. While many of us are familiar with Church’s paintings of The Hudson Valley, his arctic paintings are lesser-known and timely. “The exhibit includes photographs and historic texts which Church collected about icebergs and Arctic exploration, as well as the work of four contemporary artists who contemplate the wonder of fragility of Earth’s polar environments.” The exhibition is open to the public by reservation, Friday – Sunday, through March 26, 2023.
6:30PM-9:30PM
14th Annual Robbie Burns Supper/Celebration at The Hudson House Distillery
Where: West Park, New York
"Party like it’s 1759!” Celebrate the great Scottish poet Robert Burns with your host Jonathan Kruk, the renowned Hudson Valley Storyteller, and Master Piper Jeremy Freeman with special guests. This is an immersive, interactive theatrical experience/dinner with singing, recitations of Burns’ poems, toasts, and a Scottish-themed dinner! This sounds like a totally out-of-the ordinary night.
RENT at The Center For Performing Arts
Where: Rhinebeck, New York
Rent – the bohemian rock musical that launched so many careers, the canonical modern musical theatre piece beloved by every child of the 90’s (and everyone else who’s seen it); it’s been…ahem… a couple of decades – so why not revisit this classic? Rent still rocks!
Cars and Coffee at Hayfields Market
Where: North Salem, New York
Every first Sunday of the month Hayfields hosts a hangout for car enthusiasts. Rain or shine – they’re there all four seasons. Make a reservation for your car, your coffee and your ticket to admire some classic cars and talk auto-shop.
12:00PM - 7:00PM
The Drowned Lands Cabin Fever Winter Festival
Where: Warwick, New York
The Drowned Lands Brewery has an outdoor festival that sounds like a great way to spend a day outdoors – there will be an outdoor ice bar, pastry stouts, fire pits, sledding, snow shoeing, and winter cocktails on offer.
