Homes For Sale In Roscoe NY

Most of Sullivan County is forest, with around 100 people per square mile, so you won’t be surprised to find Roscoe a quiet and relaxed outpost of humanity, “all about the Catskills,” according to the residents.

Roscoe is known as “Trout Town USA,” where the Beaverkill and Willowemoc meet at Junction Pool, one of the world’s famous fishing sites due to the legendary indecision of the trout in choosing along which stream to swim! But even standing in Junction Pool, NY Route 17 is within a stone’s throw, should you have an urge to see Degas at the Met or a Yankees game.

A short ride west of town is the Delaware River. Whether you fish or not, this is a wonderful area full of pristine streams, thick forests, waterfalls and fabulous scenery, and it’s been drawing visitors like a magnet forever. From 1868 to 1957, the O&W Railroad carried some of them to and from Roscoe, and the O&W Railroad Museum remains a testament to them and to all who’ve helped preserve that history. The caboose, trout car and shanties are colorful reminders of the region’s past.

What else to do in town? There are a couple of great places to wash down some good food with excellent drink: Roscoe Beer Company, for their Trout Town American Amber Ale and Two Headed Stout, named for the mythical Roscoe two-headed trout, and live music on the weekends; and Do Good Spirits, where you’ll swoon over their Beaverkill Bourbon Cream, combining Prohibition Distillery Bootlegger bourbon, cream and maple syrup.

Across from Roscoe Beer is a golfing mecca, Twin Village Golf & Winter Park, where you can enjoy a 95-year-old golfing lineage on the nine-hole course, complete with Catskills mountain views. They recommend you bring your fishing rods, as well, for the Beaverkill is within walking distance. Or spend some time at the Tennanah Lake Golf & Tennis Club, set on 1,000 acres at Sullivan County’s highest elevation. Of course there’s a bar and grill there, if you can drag yourself indoors, away from the beautiful surroundings.

Bring your trailer, tent and sleeping bag for a stay at Beaverkill Campground, right on the stream; or drive a few miles to the nearly 30,000-acre Delaware Wild Forest, where you’ll find primitive camping facilities and 45+ miles of fantastic hiking. Get your provisions and meet new friends at the Sunday Roscoe Farmers Market or Pepacton Natural Foods, where you’ll find such specialties as organic veggies from Berry Brook Farm and Clem Murphy’s honey. Make a special appointment to visit Mountain Lady Maple, using old-school techniques to create the purest maple products.

After all that sunshine and fresh air you’ll be looking for some kind of cultural activity to stimulate your mind; or maybe you want to get into the studio? In that case check out photographer/musician Alec Castillo's Clock Inn Catskills exhibition space and art studio. Best suited to “photographers, videographers, printers and designers,” the studio is “also viable for movie screenings, workshops, painters, writers and other mediums.”

Indoors or out, Roscoe is fabulous!

Looking for a nice country place within reach of a cross-state road? Roscoe’s for you!

A five-bedroom, three-bath, 2,500-square-foot Roscoe home for sale, the Beaverkill River House, was in the same family since it was built in 1900. Idyllic, only a couple of miles northwest of Roscoe.

If you’re hoping for an affordable, seasonal Roscoe NY home for sale, there’s a 400-square-foot cabin right on Lake Muskoday, a non-motorboat lake—quiet!—for fishing, boating, swimming, hiking or simply enjoying your Roscoe picnic overlooking the water. The Lake Association affords access to a sandy beach and all sorts of amenities.

Better yet, a three-bedroom, 2.5-bath, 3,000+-square-foot Roscoe home for sale on more than 10 acres (one acre fenced around the house) of desirable Tennanah Lake real estate with about 400 feet of lakefront access and double docks for boating and water sports.
