Homes For Sale In Livingston NY

Livingston real estate provides Columbia County rural living in its purest form! The rural nature of the Town of Livingston is immediately apparent when you look at the names of its hamlets: Bells Pond, Blue Stores, Burden, Glencoe Mills, Linlithgo, Linlithgo Mills and Livingston - and the town is as quaint as its hamlets’ names! Livingston's community keeps in touch through the Livingston Recreation Association Facebook page, which is fairly new but active and a good entrée into the vibe. There was a lot of excitement about the holiday decorating contest, “Light Up the Town,” with 27 homes registered and the winners announced and congratulated. This is a hometown with hometown spirit. It could be yours!

Livingston NY History and Lifestyle

Livingston Homes For Sale

Livingston does community well. Beyond the holiday decorating recent  fun happenings have included a presentation on “Owls of Columbia County!” and the “Great Backyard Bird Count and Feeder Making,” both put on by the Livingston Free Library in cooperation with the Mud Creek Environmental Learning Center in nearby Ghent (a field and wetland habitat that's home to beavers, muskrats, rabbits, coyotes, birds and even a bobcat)!  These small events are what make a tight community.

Outdoor adventure awaits at the 319-acre Livingston State Forest, where, besides recreational activity, the forest is managed for timber production, watershed protection, wildlife habitat and its Hudson River vistas. Livingston is the place for you if you love hanging out by the Hudson amongst enormous old trees and acres of lush farmland… and, if you’re a history buff. The Livingston History Barn is a genealogical resource and has relics of the town’s agricultural, economic, military and everyday past.

Part of the original 160,000-acre land grant to Robert Livingston the Elder in 1686, Livingston was founded in 1788, and is one of the original towns of Columbia County NY. The last mansion still in the Livingston family is Oak Hill, now a 100-acre wedding venue right on the Hudson. Oak Hill is on the National Register of Historic Places, as are two other original Livingston family dwellings: the Greek Revival-style Forth House, built between 1835 and 1840, and the Federal-style Richmond Hill
