Hopewell Junction NY Real Estate

Homes For Sale In Hopewell Junction NY

Hopewell Junction real estate is historic, by virtue of connection with Hopewell Junction's storied history! When a railroad from Dutchess Junction to Pine Plains NY was completed in 1869, the hub of the town Hopewell was relocated near the station; later, when an intersection with the New England railroad was built, the hamlet gained the name by which it’s been known since: Hopewell Junction.

With each era in history the center of the town changed, but historic buildings and a historic character remain and include the Federal-style Aaron Stockholm house on Beekman Road west of the church and, to the east on Beekman Road, two properties from before 1750: the meticulously restored Storm-Adriance-Brinkerhoff house, where George Washington spent the night, and the Isaac Lent House. Off Beekman Road east of the Taconic State Parkway is the Bykenhulle House, a Greek Revival manor house put up by Peter Adriance, scion of one of the first European families in the area; it was built in 1841, as were the barn and carriage house still on the property.

These days, Hopewell Junction NY's community Facebook page posts include a neighbor offering home-made lasagna to anyone who might want some, a reminder about the Girl Scout cookie booth, lost pet stories, free firewood pick-up. It's a nice town.

A hamlet in the Town of East Fishkill and its commercial hub, Hopewell Junction is the site of the East Fishkill Community Library, where you can join one of several book clubs, check out books and other resources in person and online, take classes, gather for fine art exhibit openings or admire local crafts in the showcases. Rather than browsing for books you may prefer antiques; if so, you’ll like the four-story Hopewell Antique Center, in business almost 40 years with nearly 30 dealers’ wares for your perusal. They even do porcelain restoration!

For more Hopewell Junction antiques, don’t miss the Brinckerhoff House Historic Site, home of the East Fishkill Historical Society. They’re a very active group, and a visit there might turn up anything from living history tableaus and plays to taking resident goats for a stroll to the planting of an herb garden to a farm-to-table fundraiser dinner.

When you’re hungry and the Brinckerhoff isn’t serving dinner, there’s still plenty of good food in town: A Culinary Institute of America grad is living her dream at the Katie Rose Bakery, making breads, wedding cakes, cookies and other luscious goodies. Tomi’s Bites is open for breakfast and lunch, specializing in homemade bagels and milkshakes; they even made the furniture! Mario’s Brick Oven Breads serves not only Italian rolls, calzones, garlic knots and arancini but also Irish soda bread, challah, French baguettes and croissants. Hopewell Hot Bagels makes not just bagels but also donuts, rugelach, cupcakes, muffins, pies and, for those who know how to turn on an oven, things to go like dough and various bread and cake mixes. If you like Greek food, they do it right at Hudson Valley GyroTiramisu is an Italian restaurant and bakery with an extensive menu and a custom cake service.  Set below the road so the deck faces the Dutchess County Rail Trail, Daddy O’s serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and you get onion rings and French fries with your burger!

The Dutchess County Rail Trail that you see from Daddy O’s stretches from the Poughkeepsie entrance of the Walkway over the Hudson all the way south to the Hopewell Depot, a restoration labor of love that brought back the 1873 structures to their former glory; the site is now an interactive museum and park, and they’re working on restoring a caboose, too! Another trail will soon lead from Pawling to the Depot, the Maybrook Trailway, a 15-mile section of the Empire State Trail, passes through woods, fields and wetlands on its way.

Hopewell Junction NY doesn’t lack for town recreation facilities. Here’s a list that includes where locals go for the summer concert series as well as baseball, soccer, skateboard and roller rinks and a fitness center.
