Welcome to the Major Jacob Hasbrouck, Jr. House, one of the most beautiful, recognizable, and historic homes in the Hudson Valley. Included on the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places, this Dutch Colonial stone vernacular is being offered to the public for the first time. Perfectly sited on Huguenot Street, considered the oldest street in America, the home has been owned continuously by a Hasbrouck descent since its origination. In 1677, twelve founding families of the French Huguenot purchased a 40,000 acre tract of land extending from the foothills of the Shawangunk Mountains to the Hudson River. This land became known as the "New Paltz Patent". One of the original patentees was Jean Hasbrouck, grandfather to Major Hasbrouck. The home was erected in two sections, circa 1780. The original one-and-one-half-story dwelling consisted of a ground floor with three rooms, passage, and a full basement. It was completed in 1786. An addition or "outlet" was added in 1812 by Major Hasbrouck's son, Jacob J., providing five additional rooms for the growing multi-generational family. This home now awaits its next steward. Authentic and unspoiled with original period details that will sweep you back in time: 20'' thick stone walls, 18" wide plank floors, hand-hewn beams, marbleized plaster walls, and dutch doors. Steeped in rich history, primed for restoration and renewal, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of American History.
