An Interview With The Owners of Outdated Cafe in Kingston, NY

The Hudson Valley’s many towns have a culinary scene that is deliciously happening. Kingston is no exception. Outdated Café at 314 Wall Street in the hip and historic Stockade District is a local favorite. Outdated is an “antique café” that sells an eclectic mix of vintage and antiques alongside their outstanding coffee, farm fresh foods, and baked goods.

I sat down with Outdated’s owners, Tarah Gay and Gabriel Constantine, to talk about the business and what they love about the Hudson Valley.

Tell me about your background. How and when did you start your business?

We started our business in 2012 with no background in the restaurant industry. We both loved antiques and going out looking for antiques, we often would go to coffee shops & bakeries while out and about. With Tarah having a baking background, we thought we could create a fun, healthy and inviting space. We felt our idea would be unique, we knew it would be something we both would want to go to.

What are the benefits of being in business here?

The beautiful Hudson Valley with all of the farm fresh produce to supply our restaurant with and the amazing people to collaborate with. We love our appreciative customer base locally from Kingston and all of the great surrounding towns, Stone Ridge, Phoenicia, Woodstock, so many!

Tell me a bit about how your home and how you found it?

We were actively searching for houses in the Hudson Valley and including just down the block from our store in Kingston. We would look everywhere, we looked online every day, then one day we saw an advertisement in a magazine... it showed a photo of the view from the kitchen window looking out, it looked so nice, we knew that was the house we wanted.

What are some of your favorite things about the area that only a local would know?

Our favorite things only a local might know about the Hudson Valley would be the beautiful outdoors, all of the waterfalls, rock scrambles, and so many trails.

What would you like others who are considering moving to the Hudson Valley to know?

We would want them to know the amazing beauty the Hudson Valley has to offer, from the farms & mountains to the arts & culture.

Feel like you'd like to become a local? Even be close enough to walk over to Outdated for a daily Kimchi Grilled Cheese? Here's what's available!
