Summer Music Festivals In The Catskills

Looking for things to do in the Catskills? Well, wonder no more, we can tell you exactly what to do in the Catskills.

We're looking forward to Summer at Village Green Realty. Not that we don't love winter in the Catskills. The smell of a snow storm coming in, the skating, the nesting with a good cup of tea - all really good stuff. But we're looking forward to the Summer Music Festivals in the Catskills. It might sound cliched (and more than a bit dorky) but in Summer our "hills are alive with the sound of music". Festivals this summer range in content from country to opera, from musical theatre to world. In some cases tickets for these events go on sale early and sell out before the first big thaw. So, since we don't want you to be lamenting that you're tied to your cubicle while the same 10 songs play on that pop station that your co-worker just loves we're giving your our pics for this summer.

Mountain Jam Hunter

(Photo via Mountain Jam Facebook) First up is "Mountain Jam" a 4 day festival produced by Woodstock's legendary indie radio station WDST 100.1 and held at Hunter Mountain. 3 stages, 50 sets, camping, kids activities, environmental and healing exhibitions. It's cool, it's funky, it's fun (it's not free), and you can listen to the music and stare at the mountains. This year's lineup includes Primus, Amy Helm, Gov't Mule, and (brace yourself for a great band name) Deer Tick! You can buy a full weekend pass with or without camping (for a bit extra you can stay in one of the a-dorable pre-pitched tents) or just buy a day pass. Where to stay for Mountain Jam if camping's not for you?

There are plenty of places in Hunter, Windham, Tannersville, and Phoenicia - but book rooms early. Get tickets here, we'll see you there.

Next up is Hunter's latest addition to the Catskills music scene,  Taste of Country Music Festival  which will be held June 13 - June 15. Headliners include Lady Antebellum, Willie Nelson, Trace Atkins and Hunter Hayes. All the same great mountains, camping and fun in Hunter with what will probably be a bit of a different vibe than Mountain Jam.

Another recent addition to the scene is the Phoenicia International Festival of The Voice. Held in August (the dates for this year's event will be announced soon) the program includes a performance of Rigoletto cast with singers from the Met and other great opera houses of the planet, and the rest of the lineup will be announced soon.

Maverick Concerts is the oldest continuous Chamber Music festival in the country. The concerts are held in a rustic barn built by Hervey White. Here's a wonderful article published in the NY Times in 1916 on his purchase of the farm where the concerts are held and the building of the barn. They have several children's concerts throughout the summer and a very impressive lineup of chamber music. At another one of our mountains, the Belleayre Music Festival is an ode to musical diversity. This year they've got the Doobie Brother's, a fully staged performance of Bizet's "Carmen" and the great Ben Vereen! Belleayre is right up the road from Phoenicia. There's plenty of nearby camping, great dining and a lake and playground right at Belleayre for daytime fun. The festival runs throughout the summer so check their website for details.

Last year at Belleayre - Christine Ebersole - via Belleayre Music Festival. Come see us this summer and enjoy one or all of these great Summer Music Festivals in the Catskills. Once you're here you may want not want to leave. We can help you find Catskills Real Estate closest to the festival of your choice.
