Local Winter Outfitters In The Catskills And Hudson Valley

 

At this time of year I’m thinking about keeping warm and healthy, and although I could easily stay indoors until April, I want to get out and breathe the air! One way of keeping warm is getting cozy in front of a crackling fire, but I’m convinced warmth comes from the inside out, and the best way to get warm is to get moving.

I love living in the Hudson Valley, one of the most beautiful places on the planet, and I really appreciate how the beauty changes with each season. In winter, I see the underpinnings, the mountains’ outlines against the sky, the bare trees’ graceful limbs, the muted colors and the shapes of nature. We opened our newest Real Estate office in Rhinebeck NY a few weeks ago, and we all got a little bonus. We knew it was coming, but for Real Estate people, the perk that is working in a village filled with great home decor shops cannot to be underestimated. Window shopping while picking up a mid-afternoon iced coffee at Bread Alone is a real coffee break. Daydreaming about that outdoor ottoman made of synthetic turf is a great way to take a little brain break. We've been selling property in and around Rhinebeck for decades, and we'd stop in the village for a quick peek. My parents have a biodynamic farm in Maine.

What is biodynamic farming?

Biodynamic is beyond Organic. You use only what you find on your own land to fertilize and support what you produce, animal and vegetable. So how has it come to pass that I have the blackest of black thumbs? It seems I can't even grow parsely, and I have a herd of deer that live in my backyard. Right now I have so many home improvement projects on the docket that even considering adding building a fenced-in garden to the list makes me feel....well.....not nice.
