Hudson Valley Summer Events

Summer events have returned to The Hudson Valley and Catskill Region. Everyone at Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty is thrilled that we not only have great events to share with you, but also that we have great events to go to! We know that we’ve had more interaction than many people over the past year - real estate thankfully kept rolling. But we missed music, we missed theatre, we missed quirky workshops on random yet incredibly interesting topics. Events and the arts are what this area is about!  We're ecstatic that they are back on our calendar.

I’ve put together a list of events recommended by me and my colleagues. We try to give you something from every corner of the region. It’s in no way exhaustive, but if you hit every event in this list, you’ll have a great summer that's full of fun and opportunities to learn a few new tricks.

Ripple Little at The Railtrail Café in Rosendale

Remember when we used to go out and listen to bands we’ve never heard of before? Let’s do it again. An acoustic trio with “infectious grooves” at one of Ulster County’s staple live music venues. And it's FREE!

When: Friday, July 2, 6:00PM - 8:00PM

Paul Taylor Dance at Performance Spaces for the 21st Century in Chatham

Remember how you promised yourself you were going to do all the things you always meant to do once it was possible to do them again? Paul Taylor Dance is a classic modern dance company for a reason. They’re utterly fantastic! Watch an ensemble of every ilk perform 2 lovely classic pieces that will bring you joy. And, it's in Chatham - if you don’t know Chatham you should! It’s delightful!

When: Friday, July 2 & Saturday, July 3, 8:00PM - 9:00PM

Nina Lipkowitz:"Year of Living Dangerously, What's Next" - Warren Galley in Hudson

What were all the artists doing during the pandemic? Creating new works! Now it’s time to unveil them. This is just one of many shows opening this summer. I can’t wait to see some fresh things!

When: Friday, July 2nd through Sunday, July 25th

Solar Boat Tours at the Hudson River Maritime Museum - Kingston

The Hudson River Maritime Museum has a 100% solar powered boat that leaves from the Rondout in Kingston. Good clean fun!

When: All Summer!

4th of July Fireworks and Events

Every year I have to give a shout-out to Hudson Valley Magazine for putting together this fairly exhaustive list of local fireworks displays - thank goodness for them! This is a task! My pick is the display at Mohonk Mountain House – go do an iconically American thing at an iconically American place!

Village of Coxsackie’s Music In The Park Series

I love a good summer music series. Many thanks to the many different groups that put series like this one together across the region. This is just one of many. I love that you can find some live music somewhere just about any night of the summer.

When: Sundays All Summer Long

Native Tree Identification at The Mountaintop Arboretum in Tannersville

This happens. You’re on a hike with friends...you see an unusual tree...everyone begins postulating what type of tree it is...absolutely no one knows what they are talking about!!! This is your chance to be the one who knows. The Mountaintop Arboretum is a beautiful forest garden, worth a visit even if you can’t make this event. BUT if you can, you’ll walk away with great tree facts like these ----->

When:
Saturday, July 31 10:00 AM 11:30 AM

King Arthur at The Fischer Center At Bard - Annandale-On-Hudson

OPERA! Once again incredible singers will let loose, their voices soaring through the Fischer Center as part of Bard’s beloved Summerscape Series. Celebrate the summer with Chausson’s lyric opera on a classic story.

When: July 25th, 28th, 30th, and August 1st

Bat House Making Workshop at Barnfox

Kingston and the surrounds have been buzzing about Barnfox since they opened, which was followed by a long period during which none of us were able to check it out! Quell your curiosity with one of their open-to-the-public events this summer. The one that stuck out to me was the Bat House Making Workshop - because, why not?

When: Saturday, July 10th 1:30PM - 3:30PM

Adirondack Chair Build

Hudson River Maritime Museum - Kingston

The Hudson River Maritime Museum really has some great events. I want to do this one! I need some Adirondack Chairs, and building this sort of thing yourself is so satisfying. Each time you sit down in your chair you could think “I built this!"

When: Saturday, August 28th & Sunday, August 29th

Once At Rhinebeck Center For Performing Arts

If you missed “Once” on Broadway, you missed something. Go see it at the Rhinebeck Center for Performing arts – it’s not your ordinary good-time musical. Love, love of music, mixing cultures, and the pull of responsibility against the opposing force of possibility. It’s great. Go see it. Did I already say that?

When: Friday July 30th Through Sunday, August 22nd

Bluegrass Brunch feat. Jim Gaudet & The Railroad Boys at Daryl’s House - Pawling

Brunch is BACK! YAAAAASSSSS!!!!! Getting in a Sunday Brunch when you’re a real estate agent is never an easy thing. But since I couldn’t brunch for so very long, I’m going to make sure I get at least one on my calendar this summer. Daryl’s House is never not fun! Thank goodness all the musicians are back at it.

When: Sunday, July 11, 11:00AM

Painting with the Masters at The O Zone in Red Hook

Sometimes all it takes to get started with something is a little security blanket. O Zone’s "Painting With The Masters" lets you try your hand a recreating a masterpiece. It’s a great way to start painting without having to answer the question, “What should I paint?” Bring a friend or make some new ones while you look out on O Zone’s sustainable farm. If you’re absolutely sure you’re not a painter they’ve got a DIY Nut Milk class on the docket too!

When: Saturday, July 10, 5:00PM - 6:00PM

Outdoor Movies at Opus 40 From Upstate Films - Saugerties

What could be cooler than outdoor movies amidst an amazing rock sculpture with equally amazing Catskills views? Searching….searching…. nope, nothing. I can think of nothing cooler than this! Here’s the schedule:

July 10th: An American Werewolf in London - The 40th anniversary of the cult classic. Star Griffin Dunne will introduce.

August 14th: Maggie’s Plan - (with director Rebecca Miller in person to introduce), 6:30 pm music, 8 pm-9:45 pm movie

September 11th: Man on Wire with star Philippe Petit

October 16th:  The original Hairspray - the second act of their Peak Foliage Soiree fundraiser.

Looking Closely: Writing Walks for Young People (Ages 8 to 12) with Julia Sforza at Opus 40 - Saugerties

Do you know a contemplative young person? Here’s a great weekend activity for kids who are interested in writing and nature, or both.

When: Sunday, July 18th 11:00AM - 12:00PM

Blithe Spirit at Woodstock Playhouse

Blithe Spirit is Noel Coward’s classic play about a wife who hangs around an upscale English country house when she should be hanging around with the angels. She’s no angel. The recent film adaptation of this classic, filled with WONDERFUL actors proved, once again, that this play is funniest on stage. Go see it.

When: July 23rd Through The 25th

New York Renaissance Faire - Tuxedo

Travel back in time for an amusing romp through 30 acres of Elizabethan England. Grab a turkey leg, cheer for your favorite knight at the Jousting Tournament, dispense "Vegetable Justice" at the tomato booth, and watch comedians, harpists, acrobats, and a "Fire Whip Sword Show" in awe. This is a cult favorite. You don't want to miss it!

When:  Saturdays, Sundays, & Labor Day, From August 21st Through October 3rd, 10:00AM - 7:00PM

Ok, I could do this all day, but I’m going to have to wrap it up. This is my last recommendation for today, watch for more next time!

County Fairs in The Catskills & Hudson Valley

I've been dreaming of fried foods, carnival rides, time with cows and in antique tents since I heard the county fairs were back on. Summer fun, here we all come!

Ulster County Fair - New Paltz

Don't miss Robinson's Racing Pigs! It's adorable. It's exciting. It's good ol' fashioned fun!

Dutchess County Fair

Insider Tip: Buy your tickets online before before prices go up on August 24th!
