Events & Activities In The Catskills & Hudson Valley | June 2023

Posted by Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty on Wednesday, May 31st, 2023 at 2:55pm

The summer gets rolling in the Catskills and Hudson Valley in June, and there are exciting events of every kind in Greene, Ulster, Columbia, Putnam, Sullivan, Orange, and Dutchess Counties. As fate (luck?) would have it, we featured area history in our monthly newsletter, and there are so many history-related events on the calendar this month. We didn't plan it, but we'll take it! And, of course, with the start of the summer comes the start of all the farmer's markets The Hudson Valley is known for. We've featured just a few here. Looking for the one closest to you? Look for your community on our Hudson Valley and Catskills community information pages - there's a "Farms and Markets" resource for each town. Here's a short list of the many, many local events that sparked our interest. Did we miss something you're planning on attending or hosting? Put it in the comments, we'd love to hear about it and so would our readers!

Saturday, June 24th

Hudson Valley Food Truck Festival

This festival is in Poughquag (which is in Dutchess County) at Barton Orchards. Who will be there? Well, besides a bunch of hungry people ready to be charmed and fed, Spacey Tracey will be there with her pickles (so good and garlicky)! The Empanada Mama will be in attendance with tasty pasties, and some Mainers will be making an appearance to dish up authentic lobster roles. Yuuuuuummmmm. While you're there, stop in at the petting zoo, the tap room and the bark park.

Friday, June 30th

Hamlet: The Lost Clown

In America, summer means Shakespeare - in the case of this production of Hamlet, it also means Batman! Why not? The Bard's masterpiece has been messed around with for hundreds of years! Peopling it with Batman, the Joker, and other comic characters is no different than setting it in space or doing it with Punch and Judy puppets. Will Alfred be Polonius or Yorick? Will Ophelia be wearing leather and a mask with ears? We can't wait to find out.

Every Saturday Through November 18th

Hudson Farmer's Market

Every Saturday at the corner of Columbia and 6th Street, you can buy greens, greens, greens, flowers, fish, cider, baked goods, cheeses and coffee. Get all your shopping done or just go for an entertaining community-minded mid-morning munch.

Thursday, June 15th

Harmonies On The Hudson Concert Series Featuring Setting Sun

Live music on the lawn of one of the Hudson Valley's famous historic houses, Clermont, with fabulous views, cool breezes and music by the guy on the left, singer/songwriter Gary Levitt. He has an early 2000's vibe and it's hard not to want to show up for someone who wades into the muck (literally and figuratively) for his art.

Sunday, June 25th

Mikhail Baryshnikov at 75: A Day of Music & Celebration

Kaatsbaan Cultural Center in Tivoli will play host to The Baryshnikov Art Center's celebration of its incredible founder. Spend the day at the beautiful Kaatsbaan watching such luminaries as Laurie Anderson, Diana Krall, Regina Spektor, and Mark Morris. Baryshnikov will only be 75 once - this is one not to miss.

Every Saturday Through October 14th

Germantown Farmer's Market

On Saturdays from 10-1 you'll find farmers, bakers, coffee brewers, and flower people at the Germantown Farmer's Market. Where is it exactly? 50 Palatine Park Road (at Palatine Park).

Zadock Pratt Museum Summer Season

As we mentioned, we featured one of the iconic arts colonies of the Catskills, Onteora Park, in our newsletter. It's closest neighboring arts colony was Prattsville, and this summer the museum there is exhibiting 19th century drawings of Prattsville's historic buildings. Real Estate history. We love it! While you're in the area, wander through Catskill's Village for the Catskill Cats exhibition.

Every Sunday Through October 29th

Catskill Farmer's Market

The Great Northern Catskills are not going to let you run out of veggies on a summer weekend! We promise you will be stocked with kale, chard, and tomatoes for as many caprese salads as you care to make. You can hit up Hudson and Germantown on Saturday and pop across the river to Catskill on Sundays if you run through all your kale chips. This market doesn't stop at strawberries and carrots - there's ramen, empanadas, beautiful bread, a latte or two, lamb, hot dogs, and dog treats.

Friday, June 16th Through Sunday, June 18th

Over Yondr Music Festival

PHONE-FREE music festival? Yes please! This 3-day weekend festival in Greenville offers camping and only 400 tickets, so get yours now! Intimate, outdoorsy, disconnected - this is sure to be a unique throw-back experience.

Saturday, June 24th Through Sunday, June 25th

Round Top Bavarian Summer Fest at Riedlbauer's Nussy's Bier Garten

In short, this is an Oktoberfest in June. How could that be bad? There will be polka, there will be beer, there will be sausages and there will be Reidlbauer's one of the last remaining classic Catskills resorts.

Saturday, June 24th Through Sunday, June 25th

Oysterfest at the River Grill

How gorgeous does that look? Oyster lovers, no need to go The Hamptons or The Cape, you can instead go to the beautiful Stewart House on The Hudson in Athens. From 1-9pm they'll be shucking, pouring spicy bloody mary's, playing music and enjoying the great views the Stewart House is Hudson-Valley-famous for. If oysters are not for you, they have karaoke on the 15th!

Through June 4th

East Of Berlin

The regional premiere of this emotional play by Hannah Moscovitch tells the story of the child of a Nazi war criminal and an Auschwitz survivor fall in love. A little heavy? Perhaps. Worthwhile? Yes.

Sunday, June 18th

26th Annual Cruisin’ on the Mountaintop Father’s Day Car Show

This Greene County car show has been going on for a quarter of a century. Dad's like to spend Father's Day doing all sorts of things. Maybe this is just what the Dads in your life would love to do; maybe it's just what you'd like to do; take a beautiful drive to the Village of Tannersville, and check out the cars on display.

More History! This is such a nice event. Two teams, one from Kingston and one from Saugerties, dress up in old-timey uniforms and play a game of ball with 1800's rules while spectators cheer them on (why not join them in a costume) and have snacks. Just good community fun.

Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays, Friday, June 30th Through July 16th

Fiddler On The Roof At Woodstock Playhouse

A Classic! Fiddler On The Roof is rousing, touching and will leave you humming "If I Were a Rich Man" for weeks. The Woodstock Playhouse is mounting a production on their nice, tall stage. Why does it matter? It only ever really works on a tall stage! That fiddler's got to get on the roof at some point for authenticity - if his heads in the rigging for the lights, you're not in Anatevka anymore. Enjoy!
