Fall Events & Activities In The Catskills & Hudson Valley
Posted by Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022 at 4:40pm
September is a notoriously busy month everywhere–not just in the Hudson Valley and Catskills! If you’re someone involved in teaching or going to school it can be hard to squeeze in fun. Here are some very low commitment events to attend throughout the Catskills and Hudson Valley. In October we’ll hit you with all the big stuff!
Cat’s Meow Gala and Auction
Where: Catskill, New York
Sunday, September 18th. The coveted Catskills Cats are going up for auction this month. The auction is an event near and dear to our hearts at Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty. Every year we sponsor one of the Catskill Cats - the creations of local artists which line the streets of Catskill all summer long making tourists and locals happy. We love choosing the cat we’ll sponsor based on the artists’ renderings, watching the cats go up around town and visiting them each day when we walk out of our office and down the street to get a cup of coffee at HiLo or a tasty lunch at the Mermaid Café. They brighten up the town, and one (or two or three) could brighten up your living room if you’re the highest bidder. This year the auctioneer will be our own Angela Lanuto. Viewing & hors d’oeuvres - 1PM-2PM, Live Auction - 2PM-5PM. See you at the auction!
Catskill Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Rally
Where: East Durham, New York
A 3-day festival with concerts, a pub-crawl, vendors, fireworks and (this event might be particular to this festival), spaghetti wrestling. Motorcycle enthusiasts come from far and wide to wind their way through the Catskills and hang out together for the weekend.
Colors In The Catskills Fall Festival Series
Where: Hunter, New York
Look! A destination for your leaf peeping drive! 3 weekends in October, Hunter Mountain is offering live bands, scenic skyrides, food and drink and of course views of the colorful changing landscape.
Romeo & Juliet at The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival
Where: Garrison, New York
Everyone loves outdoor Shakespeare. Think you don’t? Really? Give it a try! But it can be a little less lovable in the high heat of August. Fortunately for all of us, the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival has the wisdom to run into the fall! Watch sword fights, the famous Queen Mab speech and the tragedy (oh! the tragedy!) in your favorite sweater.
Canned Heat @ Daryl’s House Club
Where: Pawling, New York
There are always great acts at Daryl’s House Club in Putnam County, we’re singling this one for a couple of reasons; first Canned Heat’s hit “Going Up To The Country” is an anthem for many people who escape to the quiet of the Hudson Valley and Catskills. Some of our agents have been known to play it religiously in their cars as they drive home from a trip to the city or further afield. Second, we came across this video of Woodstock footage cut to the laid-back tune. What could be more perfect for us to share?
New York State Renaissance Faire
Where: Tuxedo, New York
If you’ve never been to the NY Renaissance Faire you’re missing out! There’s great music, comedians who wave flaming whips around, and, of course, the joust! Put on an outfit or don’t, but don’t miss it. We promise you’ll have great fun.
S.O.S. Survival of the Shawangunks Triathalon
Where: New Paltz, New York
One of the best adventure triathlons in the world, this race is already booked up for participants - but spectators are welcome. Watch some awesome athletes sweat it out along the paths of Minnewaska Preserve and the waters of Lake Mohonk.
HITS
Where: Saugerties, New York
For those who don't follow the Hunter Jumper horse show world, HITS (Horse Shows in the Sun) is a series of high-stakes equestrian competition that are held around the United States. Every year, a HITS show is held in Saugerties. It's an engaging and entertaining event whether you’re an equestrian yourself or have never touched a saddle.
Creature Feature at The Rosendale Theatre: Spider Baby, Or The Maddest Story Ever Told!
Where: Rosendale, New York
How delightfully strange! Here’s the setup for this cult classic: a chauffeur/caretaker/nanny of three wealthy, orphaned adult siblings who suffer from “Merrye Syndrome”; a disease that causes abnormal mental, social and physical regression. The horror kicks in when greedy relatives show up to steal the valuable estate and pack the “children” off to an insane asylum. There’s nothing like this on Netflix.
Hudson Valley Garlic Festival
Where: Saugerties, New York
In the tradition in which it was born, the Hudson Valley Garlic Festival™ continues to be a fun celebration of the harvest of what garlic aficionados lovingly refer to as the, Stinking Rose.
Things to do at the Garlic Festival:
- Get Garlic
- Eat Garlic
- Watch Chef’s Cook Garlic
- Browse Crafts (some made of garlic)
- Shop Market Place (never fear, there’s garlic)
- Live Music (maybe they’ll sing about garlic?)
Red Hook's Neighbor's Night
Where: Red Hook, New York
"Come meet your neighbors on Friday, Sep. 16, 5:30-7:00pm in the Village Municipal Lot. Free food prepared by Red Hook Responds, special non-alcoholic "Mocktail" bar thanks to Maarten Reilingh of Coldwell Banker Village Green Realty & games courtesy of the Red Hook Chamber of Commerce. “
