64 Chase Road

64 Chase Road, Shokan, NY

A bucolic farmhouse on a country road lined by huge maples. Acres and acres of land to wander, and a barn. A barn! For sheep, or parties, or a rope swing. Or for all of those things! That’s “the dream”, isn’t it? What everyone wants in their piece of Catskills Real Estate.

Here’s the rub; in the Catskills there are just not enough bucolic homesteads to fulfill the dreams of the masses. They are far more rare than we real estate professions want to admit to ourselves. It’s tough when we can’t fulfill the dreams of everyone who comes to us for help. So, when a property comes on the market that so perfectly satisfies “the dream”, we want to shout out!  Shout from the perfectly pitched rooftop of that farmhouse, so

10 Reasons to Love a

Is it me or is "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" playing on repeat on every radio station? The DJ's in Upstate NY have really got to get a bit more creative this year! They might better play "You Can't Always Get What You Want"! The reality is it's not looking good for a Holiday Vacation filled with the white stuff. But you know what? While a snow-free town square might be a little less picturesque than all of us would like, there are some real upsides to the balmy December weather we're experiencing.

My Top 10 Reasons A Brown December Is Awesome!

#10. Barefoot Holiday Lights

I love white lights during the holidays. My husband and I wrap several dogwood trees, giant rhododendrons, azalea bushes and a couple

Ready, Set, Move In

136 Russell Lane - Home For Sale in Saugerties

Let’s face it. Sometimes you just want to move in.

If you’re searching for a home and you keep running into a proverbial wall of, “it’s great, but…”, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Of course any changes you are going to make to a home you purchase can be seen as adventures, a chance to express your inner contractor or decorator! Projects can actually be those things. But, if we’re honest… they also take time, attention and financial input. If you are just frankly not in the mood for that, don’t feel guilty about it! Embrace your lack of home-improvement gusto and feel ok about looking for a home that presents as few opportunities to “improve” as possible.

Say “no” to projects

Unconventional Equestrian

Orange County Equestrian Townhouse

I don't think there are too many human beings on this planet who don't love horses. They're beautiful, they're powerful, they have dreamy eyes, they even smell nice in that horsey way, and they carry us on their backs, wild and free! Woo-hoo! We all love them! (As a side note, everyone loves great real estate too).

There are different levels of horse love:

Level One: Admiration - these people are likely to have a gorgeous horse photograph on their living room wall, but you won't catch them mucking out a stall...ever. Maybe they take a yearly trail ride.

Level Two: Puppy Love - these people like to ride, they probably rode a lot when they were kids. But they're not willing to devote big chunks of

When we think of Woodstock, most of us think of the arts. So, take just a second to imagine what a home that exemplifies the spirit of Woodstock would be like....

It would have a connection to nature for inspiration. Wouldn't it? It would have charming spaces, outdoors and in. It would have unique details that go beyond traditional mill-work and tile, to surprises carried out with inventive, perfect craftsmanship. It would as if it grew in its spot over time, with each growth spurt marked by a different craftsperson with a different vision. Although those visions are different, they would exist in perfect harmony with one another. It would have developed just as the town has developed, incorporating new influences and welcoming each new group of

Plantation Style in the Catskills

Imagine this. It’s a Saturday night in July. You’ve just spent the day playing host to friends and family; serving barbeque while they swim in the pool, dance in your front yard, and have a party just like the ones in the film, “The Ya-Ya Sisterhood”. Now, you’re relaxing on your gracious front porch. It’s not one of those narrow New England front porches with view-blocking railings. This is a Southern-style front porch with big pillars supporting its depth, and enough room for a dining area and several seating areas. Think “veranda”, not “porch”. You’ve got a book and some iced tea and you’re looking out over your gorgeously landscaped and manicured yard as the summer breeze cools you. Is this the Catskills? Couldn’t be. But it is.

Ahhhh, performance camps! Something near and dear to my heart. I've attended them, I've taught at them, I've wriggled my way out of teaching at them once I decided I'd spent way too much time in summer performance camp. Anyway. I feel pretty well qualified to talk about performance camp.   As a working parent I know that choosing the summer camp(s) your kids will attend is a decision that ranks right up there with choosing the right school district to live in. It's not small. You want them to be safe. You probably want them to get some fresh air. Most of all you want them to be happy. As a theatre kid I did not give the teeniest hoot about fresh air. I spent my pre-teen and teen years roughly the color of Casper The Friendly Ghost because I…
