Jewett is located in the northeastern portion of the Catskill Mountains in Greene County, and is approximately three hours north of New York City and 1/2 hour from Kingston, NY. A one-traffic-light town, Jewett is renowned for its breathtaking views in a mountainous, heavily forested area, making it a serenely lovely place in which to settle. The tallest mountains – Black Dome, Blackhead and Thomas Cole (named after the painter) – are all nearly 4,000 feet and located in the northeast of the town. Eastkill creek flows east to west to the Jewett Heights area, where it spills into the Schoharie creek. Beyond its obvious natural attractions, locally produced maple syrup, custom woodworking and a Community Food Buying Club are among Jewett’s many small-town distinctions.
