Plantation Style in The Catskills – 6 Evergreen Drive Saugerties, NY

Plantation Style in the Catskills

Imagine this. It’s a Saturday night in July. You’ve just spent the day playing host to friends and family; serving barbeque while they swim in the pool, dance in your front yard, and have a party just like the ones in the film, “The Ya-Ya Sisterhood”. Now, you’re relaxing on your gracious front porch. It’s not one of those narrow New England front porches with view-blocking railings. This is a Southern-style front porch with big pillars supporting its depth, and enough room for a dining area and several seating areas. Think “veranda”, not “porch”. You’ve got a book and some iced tea and you’re looking out over your gorgeously landscaped and manicured yard as the summer breeze cools you. Is this the Catskills? Couldn’t be. But it is.

A long drive leads to this spacious plantation influenced home. Everything about this home is elegant. The sweeping lawn, the huge eat-in cook’s kitchen with plenty of room for the party to join you while you cook, the stunning entry, the saline pool. Such care was taken with the finishes: the lighting, the trim, the doors – you won’t want to alter a single detail. The master bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and a lovely bath with plenty of natural light. There’s even a private deck off the master bedroom that looks down on the pool area so you can both escape and supervise pool revelry. And is there anything nicer than sitting on a deck that overlooks a pool at nighttime? So soothing.

There are three bedrooms and two and a half baths. But there’s also a large bonus room that could become a media room, home office, yoga studio.... The two-car garage has room for your cars, your drums, your kayaks....

Evergreen Drive is located midway between Saugerties and Woodstock so you can enjoy each of these fabulous, vibrant towns equally (search Saugerties Real Estate here, search Woodstock Real Estate here.) I know some of you are saying "Saugerties isn't really in the Catskills. You're right (sigh), it's at the foot of the Catskills on the Hudson, which is just as good because you have access to the mountains and the river for boating and fishing! Saugerties is one of my favorite towns because it has a downtown that still functions like they did in the old days. You can buy groceries, visit the bakery, go to a bar, get your hardware, buy a book, hear some music, pick up an antique light fixture, and take a swim all in a 4 block radius.

If you’re new in town you’ll have no trouble finding a circle of friends! Pools this nice are pretty scarce around here. And of course your friends from out of town will be enchanted. However, if what you crave is a private refuge, this home will do nicely. It sits quite far off the road on nearly three acres. You won’t see or hear neighbors - unless you count the birds and critters of the Catskill Region.
